new bolts and gaskets were not necessary but they wont hurt anything either. you're problably just going to have to have to dig in. you just cant explain these things in a grainy web video. good luck

thanks Missouri for the links. i will probably go the breather route eventually. do you think that just a single breather makes any difference? i've heard that on the 03-04 Ls you don't need to worry about any retunes for just one breather.
