Why don't lightnings 60' worth a darn?

Alright, after some consideration and seeing most of the trucks in my area, most of the guys around here are going 1.6's with slicks converter, and over 400rwhp.

So I thought to myself, yes, it's a truck....but then I think to myself, my buddy's stock suspension Gen 1 goes 1.5x, my friend Justin's 05 Mustang goes 1.58 on slick with only bolt ons, my friend Jess goes 1.6x consistantly with a converter and slick ONLY on her Camaro....and my buddy Ryan is going 1.49 in his stock IRS (level 5 halfshafts) Cobra with 17" hoosiers on it.

The last one really puts it into perspective because last I heard from Johnny (or saw, sorry if it's incorrect) he was only going high 1.4's backhalfed!!!! I'm sure he has some dialing in to do, but still, stock suspension cobra goes 1.4's and so does Johnny with more power and a backhalfed truck, what are we doing wrong?

So, why the hell don't our trucks 60 worth a darn?? Is it weight? Are we using the wrong stall speeds, the wrong suspension, lord knows we make the power and torque, why aren't more members in the 1.5's and 1.4s?

Just thinking, I'm going to be doing some work to my truck this fall and am starting to contemplate different trannies and so forth....figured I would bounce this off of everyone and get some opinions. Sorry for the long post.

Stall speed is a factor, as well as weight and gearing.

best thing you can do in the 1/4 is use energy to go up instead of forward.

Tell it to the modded SRT-4's with E/T streets that get 1.9's.. I think our trucks do pretty good compared to most other vehicles out there.

That's a FWD car, no comparison at all.

Although my buddy's all motor CRX goes 1.6's on tire.

That is a good question. One answer I do know is just about every car on the track weighs less than a Lightning. Less power needed to push it down the track. Take a Cobra at 3900 pounds and 400 HP/ 450 TQ vs a Lightning at 4900 pounds and 400/450 TQ HP. In respect, that would be a whole tenth in the 1/4. Now you do the math for the 60' times. The Cobra's 60' would be .1-.2 tenths or more better than the Lightning. All this in a perfect world of course.

go buy those JDM V6 rear leaf springs and you'll lower your 60' times.

Weight transfer and the flimsy frame the truck sits on. F150s were never designed to be raced, so you get what you get.

It's driver and track conditions.

Ok, how about our stock 350z that we get 2.1 and 2.2's out of?

I've run my 6000# 2001 Supercrew 4x4 on stock Goodyear tires (not in 4WD) and got a 1.97 second 60' time - 10 PSI boost assisted.

Weight. Notice most of the guys getting the best 60' times strip their trucks.
I have gotten a few HIGH 1.5X 60' times though while still being heavy.
It takes a lot to get close to 5,000LBs rolling. -Mat-
