2004 stock lightning vs 1999 corvette hardtop, 6 speed

hey guys,

My dad just bought the 1999 corvette 6 speed. Both vehicles are stock.

2004 lightning, modded air box, traction bars (nothing to brag about)

1999 C5 corvette, 6 speed hard top, 345 stock horsepower

Now we have been bugging each back and forth about who is faster

what do you think?

I think Lightning in 1/8th mile, probaly 1/4 mile (maybe)

highway, forget it, i think hes got me there

The C5 is an amazing car, sounds awesome, drives awesome, all around a beautiful car.

well have you guys had any experiences?

Get him out of the hole and youve got a chance. He will pass you on the top end of the 1/4, but if its after the stripe it doesnt matter much. I've had better luck with autos myself.

Top end he's toast hell, I dont see it being much of a race. The vette should win by at least a car length I feel.

I had a 1999 C-5 Corvette Coupe and if I remember correctly in stock trim it would run about 13.3 in a 1/4 mile. If all you have is a modded airbox and traction bars the Vette will probably win. On the other hand if you were to add a pulley and a new tune I would put my money on your Lightning.

I just can't see a mid to high 13 second L hanging with an LS1 Vette. My buddy has an '02, and bone stock on stock tires it went 12's with good track prep. But it shouldn't take much to get your truck faster!

my 2003 ran a 13.2 @104 2.0 60' on f1's with a drop in k&n and no traction bars.so it should be a good race

you will have him in the 1/8th easy and the 1/4 will be close but you should be able to pull it off. I've done it myself.

That right there says volumes!

Any Z06 should wipe a Lightning, but I've never lost to a Z06 on the street.

Why?

Because no one VRTs' the intersection on a public street and no one in a real race gets to dump his clutch 10 times to figure the traction situation out.

Sometimes I wonder if I've ever pulled a 14 second run on the street; who knows? Who cares? But I tell you one thing, even a 3000 HP funny cars is going to lose (95%) to a 14 second truck if it just sits there and spins it's tires.

I think some are missing that he said it's a 6-speed Corvette. They have somewhat steeper gears and depending on the driver of course, should be a little quicker than a stock Lightning. The weather will also be a factor and right now in the middle of the summer isn't the best weather for a Lightning.

So which was it? Did you "blow his doors off" or was it "a pretty close race"?
