strange nosie by drivers door.

Hey gang Every time I drive my truck now I get this werid noise when I hit bumps. This noise is coming from the drivers door toward the back of it. I thought that maybe the speaker behind the drivers seat was loose, and it is nice and tight. Was there ever a problem with the door latch on these trucks. Because that is where is sound like it might be coming from. It sounds like it is bouncing up and down on the door latch. I took the door panel off and nothing is loose in the door itself. tell me what you guys think.

The seat belt reel is right behind the door, in the panel where the rear speakers are. You might want to check to be sure everything is OK there. An easy check might be to hold the seat belt tigh while going over a bump that you know makes it rattle.

Ya know, that sounds like the same noise I get when I'm at a light. It's been driving me crazy trying to figure it out but when I stop, as I'm sitting still, I hear a consistent knock, knock, knock, knock. They are about 4-5 seconds apart....not loud but enough for me to hear it.

I get the same thing, banging in the door panel on washboard type pavement.

Look at the passenger side belt buckle that hangs..mine rattles against the molding and is really irritating...I get a pop around the door latch area when I hit some sharper bumps..not sure what it is....would love to find out though....

Same noise here.

Took it to the dealer twice -

1st time they adjusted the door latch and said it would fix the problem

2nd time they said 'warranty doesn't cover trim and body adjustment and nuisance noises'

I still have the 'clunk' - mostly left hand, uphill truns on choppy pavement - with or without passengers - both belts buckled.

The noise is comming from the driver door rear and sounds like the door isn't closed all the way. With some muscle into some 'taps' on the door I can get close to repeating the sound with the inner door panel (hitting the top, by the lock), but I can't see this being it when I compare the force it take to replicate.

Anyone that can get it to go away - please post - this has been the 2nd most annoying thing about the L and to loose it would be heaven!

Herb

Check the body to frame ground strap on driver's side. I think a good number of them (mine included) were cross-threaded and thus failed to tighten up. The cable can rattle against cab floor right behind base of door.

I've had 2 L's and BOTH of them exhibited
the same left door sound; sometimes when going slowly over a small bump.
I believe the sound is the window glass not fully in it's track...if you can reproduce
the place where it happens most and you place your left hand on the interior of the left door trim...you can feel the brief "bump"....I think the left door glass is not as "tracked/positioned" as the passenger door glass.

Mine does this with the window up or down. I think I am going to try to put a thick layer of tape on the drivers door Latch. I want to see if this will change the tone of the noise. I pulled the pill apart and the speaker and seatbelts are tight. If it does, then I know were to start.

Check under the door, things like the parking brake cable which runs under the floorboard.

ok I will do that but this sounds like it is right next to me. I have put my hand by the middle of the door right by were the back speaker would be. That is orginally were I thought it was.

Ok I finally looked into what the noise. I decide to put some Electric tape around the door latch a few layers. Guess what the nose is gone now. I do not heard this noise anymore

So now I ask How can we make this a more permanente thing. Instead of have tape on the latch. Need ideas. If you guys have the same noise in the door area try it see if this works for you. Don't put to much tape or the door will be hard to open.

I had the same problem with my 2000 supercab and I found it to be the plastic molded interior door panel on the rear suicide door to be rubbing against the metal on the door where it touches. I removed the panel, placed the "loop" side of velcro tape where the plastic & metal touch and the sound is gone for good. Also, I used white velcro since my truck is white and it isn't evn noticeable!
