Real World Fuel Milage Test

Finally got a chance to due a "Real World" Fuel Milage test. What I did is this:

Went through two tanks of gas, basically driving like a jerk. Every stop light became the starting line. Every time I pulled onto the highway it was ***** out. This test even included two trips down the 1/4 and even a 140+ run on the highway. My miles on my truck are low and the milage i put on this were basically 80 percent city driving with lots of quick starts. I really wanted to see the worst fuel milage I could possibly get just to see where I would be if i was driving somewhat normal

Dividing the amount of gas put in with both tanks, divided by miles traveled during both tests......basical mpg formula, I came up with just shy of 11.5 miles per gallon. I was kinda shocked to be honest. I was figuring i'd be lucky to see 10. I figure with normal driving habits i'd be between 13-14 mpg.

That's all i was getting out of my 6cly explorer!

Mods are your basic bolt on's.......SCT chip, 4lb lower, filter, throttle body, ported blower, e fan, yada yada yada.

Just figured it may be interesting to some.

It wouldn't be near as dangerous (or fun for that matter) but why don't you do a test where you drive like a grandma? You know, go through 2 tanks of gas like you did before, but, never get into the boost. Then, get back to us and let us know what MPG you came out with.

Drive it like your going to get your hair done!!!!

I noticed since i got a my new job in oakland i commute 40 miles each way, my fuel economy has improved to about 325 miles per tank, or when the fuel light comes on. that up from 280 with a commute only 18 miles each way.

I just filled up after driving like a granny thru one tank of gas. 14.0 mpg with only current mods being FTVB, Magnaflow, and JLP cold air. Hopefully that will increase when I get my Predator next week!

I just went a complete tank driving as easy as possible, constantly watching the vacuum. VERY hard to do. My driving is very little freeway, 90% in town. Got 12.5 mpg. Next tank drove normally, some wot, not like you stole it, but not worrying about gas mileage either. I got just over 11 mpg.

For me it's not worth trying to get maximum mpg; not nearly as much fun driving the truck and only netted 1.5 mpg tops on in-town driving.

I don't like to refer to my driving as a 'habbit' habbits are bad, like heroin, I perfer hobby, like pot smoking. Yep my driving hobby usually nets me about 14mpg (Mostly freeway) but after a mail order tune from PSP and a 4lb + plug change I'm seeing 15.6 with my "Weeee this is fun!" Driving hobby. I tailgated a jackass in a Silverado (cut me off on the on ramp) last night getting on the freeway, he nealy blew his motor I was seeing about 7 lbs of boost and my HID's were right on his ***. I nearly choked from the burning oil smell from his motor.
