Attention Tuners!!! Or Anyone Else!!!!!

HI!... Does anyone have a "NEW" (never used) set of SEAN HYLAND billet oil pump gears in stock or that anyone needs to get rid of???? I blew up my 5.4 on FRIDAY night and over the weekend removed it from my truck and tore it down. It's currently a my engine builder's shop and I want to upgrade my new COBRA high volume oil pump from the powdered metal gears to the billet ones. Is there any other company that makes the billet oil pump gears? Most venders (MODMAX) get them from SHM. When I called SHM , Daryl told me they are not planning on making anymore for 6-8 weeks. I need my built 5.4 back into my truck in 2-3 weeks MAX!! It's my daily driver. If your wondering why I'm going this route with the billet pump gears, is because my 5.4 is being built to hold 1000H.P (flywheel). In the spring it will be getting a T-76 or T-78 turbo and my goal is to hit 650RWH.P. Since I'm now forced to build the engine I wanted to do this up coming winter, I want to make sure the bottom end is bullet proof so I won't have to tear into it again.

This is what I'm looking for :

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!

Thankyou :

Neal

Too many probs with billet gears right now. The tolerances are too loose and results in low oil pressure and/or early failure. I sent my set of VT gears off to a metallurgist who determined that the material was marginal for its intended purpose. I gave my brand new set of VT gears away. I wouldn't use them in my car!

MMR cryos the stock gears, o-rings the output, and changes the spring. You can get the whole pump for $250.

There seems to be a big problem with the SHM pump gears.....lots of blown motors and no oil pressure. The set I got from ModularPerformance fit very well but there are pump gear sets out there that are so badly made they wont even prime.....be careful.

Cerucker : Thanks!!!!!!! That's exactly what I was looking for. Are you NOW running this oil pump? If so, how do you like it? Whats your idle oil PSI? What's your peak oil PSI? Since I'm going turbo in the spring I'm going to get that MMR pump. It's only $209(U.S) on their site.

Accufab has them as well I believe, but they may be the supplier to SHM.

I'm running it on my Cobra motor. At idle I get about 90psi cold and 45psi hot. I have not run it much because it's a new motor, but everything seems stable. The main reason for breakage has been poor balancing combined with weak gears. Make sure and get the rotating assembly right and install a good balancer (Romac?).

Neal, I wouldn't sweat the gears. I use the FMS pump with the gears it comes with on all of our built motors, and have never had a problem. The cracking issue, as far as I know, is more related to the stick cars where the manual transmission is very harsh on the crank and there are constant harsh rpm changes up and down. I don't think I've ever heard of a gear failure on an automatic car. Just my 2 cents.

Cerucker : Thanks! I ordered the race pump from MMR today. Should be here in under a week. Don't worry about the balancing. I'm sparing no $$ on this build. Got over $8500(CAN) in it so far and it's not even together yet. lol! She's being built to hold 1000h.p (flywheel) and 7500RPM. The block will be "O" ringed due to the 20LBS of boost (turbo) I'll be running.

Thanks again !!!!

P.S : Anyone know of a company online that sells a SFI approve harmonic balancer (crank pulley) that is 8 rib????????

There was a new 8 rib Romac for the 5.4 F150 on E-bay last week for $300. You might check there.

I like the steel/steel Romacs over the steel/aluminum.
