170* OR 160* Thermostat???

I have a 170* thermostat but my friend just gave me a 160* for my truck. Should I install it or just leave the 170* stat in, BTW I do have Efans! The reason I ask is that I heard that the 160 does not let the truck get hot enough and causes it to run in a warm up/choked mode; is this true or what should I do? Thank You!

I ran a 160 thermo, one of my first mods, never had a problem. had it for 2 years, my truck did throw a rod though, I don't think it was related.

I've had my 160 for over 2 years without any problems. I live in Michigan, but I try not to drive the truck in the winter. BTW it's on the stock block aswell.

A 160* thermostat begins to open at 160* but is not fully open until 180-185 degrees. The 160 is fine.

You live in a warm enough climate that you can probably run the 160* without getting the SES (service engine soon) code which some people get because the truck senses it is not warming up to what it deems is full temperature. Cooler climates can cause this in some trucks.

I have had a 160* degree in my 2004 for over a year now and no SES light ever. Before the 160*, I tried a marine 140* and it gave me the SES code.
