FTVB Installed. Have a ?

Okay forget the search police. I aready did it.

Install went okay other than a eye bath of tranny fluid at one point. My question is since I reused the stock pan, but put in a new filter how much oil is needed? I put in five like Gregg's instructions say, then added a sixth, since it wasn't registering. Now it only reads in the cold section, (yes engine is running) and it was hot. Is it normal to add over six in my case or did I do something wrong?

I won't say what I think of the FTVB until I have the correct reading. Don't get me wrong I like it, but I may like it more when I get the level correct, because as of now the one-two shift is not much diff than stock, but the two-three is somewhat firmer.

BTW my wife helped. Something to do with the male species not reading instructions. It only took all of an hour and that is with just drivers side jacked up and supported with a jack stand. I did get one of those big flat oil collecters from Schucks auto (like Pepboys) and that got a lot of it. It also helped that I have a painted floor. Real easy clean up.

I got the ford 4x4 pan when I did mine and it took 8.5 qts to get it back to level. I know you're using the stock pan but, it's only a qt difference when you go deeper, so you've got a ways to go.

Just fill it a half qt at a time, drive it around and come back and check it.

While on this topic, I will be installing a FTVB with Moroso pan. Does anyone know how many quarts I will need? I think the Moroso pan is 4 quarts more than stock, so I think I should have 10-11 quarts for the install. Can anyone confirm this?

I just did mine and it took around 18 quarts after draining the convertor. FYI, don't use the gasket if you get one in a filter/gasket kit; re-use the stocker. Fill-it-drive-it-check-level and repeat until you don't need to add any more. It took about a hour to be sure of the level.

Mercon not Mercon V. I bought two cases at my local Ford dealer. The box said Motorcraft Mercon/Dexron II or III...not sure what number. Also, make sure those parts goofs give you the correct filter....I got the wrong one and was lucky to have an extra.

Seven full quarts and I am good now. I'm to the mid section of hot and top of cold when cold.

KIRST8404,

Mercon/Dextron III only. They will ship Thursday, we sold completely out for the second time since we've been in business. We have 48 due to arrive today but they will show up too late to ship.

Thanks,

Tim
