Had a similar problem with my 2000 and Sal's chip. When I put headers on (full length) my ET went uip. Worked wih Sal and finally changed the spark plugs to Denso's. Then I could do 12.6 with ET Streets and did not remove my hard bed cover. Had fun with beating a few C-5 Vettes,,,, The unmodifiel f body's would not line up to race. Could not beat the ZO6 Vettes without having to build a bullet bottom end and run more boost.. Just left it stock internally add a good tune with add ons. Now have almost 90,000 miles on the truck and still strong. Work with a tuner and think about different plugs. My 2 cents
I definitely agree about having the right tune. I started off with the Superchips 4lb Max Tuner running 93 octane and she would ping on the top end while running at the track with a best time of 13.14@104(4lber,TR6's, Apten port). Then I decided that I would go the dyno tune route and so had it done at a reputable tuner putting down at 400/464 STD on 93 octane at 14deg WOT. I definitely didn't have any pinging problems then but then my best track time went up to 13.8@103 in similar weather. THEN I bought the Predator and put on a PSP tune at 16deg WOT with 93 octane and was back down to running 13.2s@105s in 90deg weather.

But wouldn't you know, the gas stations stopped selling 93oct around here and so i'm stuck with 91. I had to retard my timing -10% on the Predator to keep from pinging on the top end again..

Here are my dyno graphs(using a tail pipe sniffer) from the psp tune:

and other with +5% lean increase

Hope some of my rambling helps!

Get off of the 91 octane bit, Rob. 20% of the population lives in CA, and that's all we have. Add in the disproportionate amount of performance vehicles here and add in the other 91 octane states, and you likely have a third or more of all Lightnings running on 91 octane. So the "minimum" is clearly not 92-93.

And it's really not tricky at all -- most people get it right on the first "attempt." You put the key in, start it up, put the lever in "D," and press the accelerator. Although it staggers the imagination, the truck begins to move forward every time. And when you press down real hard, the engine makes a cool whining noise and the truck begins to accelerate even quicker. Hard to believe, I know, but it's true.

Two nitto 555rs will be 500-600 then add the cost of the bars in. I got my 555s up front and 555rs in the back. Im pretty happy with the set up, but it might be over kill cause Im stock.

Im sure you realize, but all the power is usless unless you can get it to the pavement. Grab the 555rs and traction bars and head over to a tuner, who cares if its not a specific L tunner, just find a good one and get it done right the first time.

which should be impossible because of the 1 post every 60 second feature, yet some how I managed to do it.

"One more thing, my truck really seems to fall on it's face at around 80mph."

That indicates to me a partially clogged fuel filter....

Also, your 2000 L has a 3:55 rear gear istead of the 3:73 the 01's and up have.

FWIW, my 2001 L has never had a "dyno-tune". I have three tuner-tuned chips but none of them were 'played with' on and off a dyno. My last dyno pull was at 401.9 HP and 502.1 TORQUE with a 5 lb pulley and the "usual" mods. That netted me a 12.531@108.69 but that was with ET Strrets on 16" BAJA wheels.

I haven't dyno'd the Predator tunes. I might get a chance to in a couple weeks. I know a guy that did. The 93oct Predator tune made 13HP/17TQ LESS than his JDM "custom mail order tune."

Thanks for the idea's guys. Will see what happens in the next couple weeks. "Supposedly" a dyno shop in Boise just got a new wideband. I don't have much faith in this guy though. I might cruise up there and make a couple pulls anyway.

I changed my fuel filter about 3000 miles ago. I guess it's possible that I got some bad gas since then. Maybe i'll change it this weekend.

No disrespect to Rob 02, but Tim Skelton response is one of the funniest things I have read in a while

Im going to fill up with 93 octane, and try the Predator 93 Octane tune(revised). I fully understand the top end disadvantage we have. From 15-60mph my(our) Lightning(s) should have the advantage. For some reason mine doesn't. I have no problem with throwing hundreds or even thousands of dollars into my truck. As long as I see it getting faster.

I don't want to argue with you guys. Im looking for some advice? What would you guys do? I've done all the right mods. Im just not seeing the results. I have no access to a reputable dyno shop. Im seriously considering shipping my Lightning across the country to you Sal. Has anyone done this before?
Not sure where in Idaho you are but before I'd ship my truck across the country I'd consider letting fast specialties tune your truck. It's still a good solid day trip from Boise but I'm really happy with what they did for me.
