Messed Up ?

Messed Up ?

Have an 03 Lightning. Stock it had 343RWHP / 414 Lbft.
I added a JLP CAI, 6lb Pulley, Predator Tuned.
Now it is 381RWHP / 497 Lbft.
But, my friend said that he heard it pinging.
And now it seems like it is tapping ........ =(

Does it sound like the damage is done ?

The air fule was 12.1 to around 11.8 throughout the pull.
The dynoshop addded 8% fuel with the preadator.

With this set up do I need to run a colder plug (iridiums ?) ?
The kit came with a 180 deg. thermostat that I haven't installed yet.

Any info is much appreciated.

Pinging could cause serious damage if not taken care of right away, let your tuner take a look at it. Tapping is probabbly piston slap whitch is very common with 5.4L Ford engines.

Well I was seeing 15 PSI when I was on the dyno on a bone stock L (except for the CAI, Pulley, and tune)

What is you timing? Pull the plugs and look at them. They will be a good place to start looking for damage.

Pinging very very bad.
Looking at the plugs is a great way to see if anything real bad happened.

Still can't re-create the "pinging" ......(good thing)
Could it have been a dose of bad gas?

Now that I am all paranoid (still under warranty)
It does sound like valves are tapping at idle.
I can't hear it unless I pop the hood.
Isthis common for the L's ?

Oh, I did put 2 gallons of race fuel to 10 gallons of 93 oct .....

If you can only here it with the hood popped, its probably just your fuel injectors. The tend to be a bit noisey and make some what of a similar noise to valves tapping.

Yes bad gas can DEF cause Detonation
As said Detonation IS REAL BAD
I doubt very much your hearing tapping from the valves
If you open a L hood and listen real good
YOU'LL HEAR ALL KIND OF WEIRD NOISES

Injectors make a ticking noise many associate as drivetrain noise.
Piston slap is common for a L and sucks, but not the end of the world.
YES WITH 6LBS OF PULLEY YOU NEED COLDER PLUGS THAN STOCK
(Btw, that will also help PREVENT detonation )
And if I'm correct, you DO NOT want a 180 Therm, you want a 160'

The 160* thermostat and colder plugs are good things to take care of. They can make a difference.
