stock tonneau

how well do those keep water out?

I bought my truck with a POS snaping tonneau and I get water in the bed after every carwash.

Do the stock ones work like a zip lock bag or something???

My stock tonneau does a great job at keeping water out of the bed. Better than any hard cover or soft tonneau that I have ever seen.

It installs to the bed with a ziplock style plastic strip... because of this mounting system, there is very little area of the tonneau that is not attached to the bed with this strip. It also makes the tonneau quick to install...

I have two problems with the OEM tonneau.

(1). The back right corner of the tonneau was coming unraveled from the plastic strip... I had it replaced under warranty with no problem... the Dealership replaced the entire tonneau cover and mounting hardware.. I haven't had a problem with the new one.

(2). The tonneau is held in place closest to the cab by a piece of piping that runs through the vinyl material... it can sometimes be a pain to slide the tonneau in and out of that ridge when you want to take the vinyl material off of the bed... Even considering this, it's still a breeze to get on and off compared to many others...

I was thinking about going with a hard color-matched bed cover just for the look... but the versatility of the OEM tonneau keeps me from doing it.

It's lighter than a hard cover and looks darn good too

A tip for you guys with this style factory cover (got this tip from a member of another L board), put some bungee cords on the straps that hang off the end of the tonneau cover. Put the straps down in the bed and attach the other end of the bungee cords to the first set of hooks in the bed. There goes your rabbit ears (the corners that stick up over time).

I did this and used black rubber tarp straps (stronger than the bungee cords) and it worked great. My cover looks great now and those pesky corners are flat as can be
