Hope this helps.........

Install the timing chains.
Install the LH(inner) timing chain on the crankshaft sprocket, aligning the copper link with the dot on the crankshaft sprocket.
Install the LH timing chain on the camshaft sprocket aligning the copper link with the dot on the camshaft sprocket.
Install the RH(outer) timing chain on the crankshaft sprocket, aligning the copper link with the dot on the crankshaft sprocket.
Install the RH timing chain on the camshaft sprocket aligning the copper link with the dot on the camshaft sprocket.
Make sure that the copper marks on the timing chains are lined up with the corresponding dots and the crankshaft sprockets and the camshaft sprockets
Make sure that the camshaft keyway is 90 degrees from the valve cover mounting surface.

This is what ALLDATA says about installing the timing chains. Hope it helps some. -Mat-

Mike - any news today?

Did the links I sent shed any light for you at all? You've got me all scared now cuz I'll be doing the same soon - once I get my heads.

thank you Mat it does help but i did have that info already but thanks a bunch for looking it up for me
Herb........... right now i want to drink alot
i have the cams timed exactly the way they should be, all the timing marks are in the right spot and the chains liked up perfect but she will still not idle clean
it will start and it will idle however it is very rough and i can smell raw fuel. i know it wont idle like a stock truck but right now it is idleing like a big block with a huge freekin cam in it
am i supposed to let her run a bit to let the computer learn the new cams????? right now i just dont know. i got an e-mail from Johnny last night so i might try to give him a call
thanks for the help you guys and if anyone else has any input on how their cammed motor idled when first put in please let me know if this is normal
again thanks Mat and Herb, ill let you know how i make out on this board or another or both

It will generally do better after 30 miles or so of learning. If you have much cam, you will have to tune (chip/pcm) for it and at least let it run for a while.

If your chain has the brass links you are in luck. My factory chains did not, but replacements did. Single brass link over the mark on crank gear, the cam gear marks go between to two cam gear marks. Crank keyway must be at 12 O'clock and cam gear marks will be each favor the motor side of vertical, i.e. 1 o'clock on passenger and 11 o'clock on driver side. DO NOT ROTATE motor and limit rotation of cams when installing chains. Failure to do so can bend valves.
