l-menece,

thanks for the brief right up. I was looking at JDMs page and I saw that the recomend it as a first mod. I was wondering if they were any good, now that they got your blessing Ill have to start looking into it.

Were you able to install it yourself?

DO it myself... OH NO!

you need to take it to a shop that has done rear ends.

I'll post up the tolerances before and after (the guy who did it gave me all the tolerances)

what 4.10 are you guys running?

I'm a chevy guy and have only gone with GM's motive gears in the past and have no idea who makes them for the L's.

Same here. I busted my Richmond 4.10s 1st time down the track on drag radials in my LT1 car. Went with the GMs, which by the way are NOT made by GM as in the car manufacturer-- This is Genuine Motive out of Italy. Not sure if they make them for Ford app but I know they were a better product for the undersized 7.5" 10-bolt than the commonly popular Richmonds. I'd imagine Richmond makes some for our trucks. What rear do we have anyway?

Get them installed by someone who knows what they're doing so you get proper lash and not snap the ring/pinion teeth on hard launches. They can also whine badly if improperly installed.

I know that supporting vendors sell them, like JLP and JDM. Who they get them from, I have no idea.

If you think the 4:10s are fun on dry pavement, wait until it rains sometime! I've had my life flash before my eyes on more than one occasion - typical example: I was going around a long left hand turn, climbed into the throttle a little & got to see both sides of the street without having to turning my head.......I'd never go back to the 3:55s though. I get 15 - 16 MPG on long freeway drives @ 75 MPH.

Most people have advised against 4.10 gears in the past, but more recently it seems many are using them successfully.
I am contemplating going with 4.56 gears with an overdrive auxilliary trans. to regain a useful top end drag gear, as well as a 5% lower overdrive ratio as compared to stock. The downside is it will be expensive.

an overdrive auxilliary trans.
I would advise against that I know of one person that tried that and replaced the overdrive unit twice in a week long event!
they say they hold up but I see alot of them on ebay stating they are rebuilt?and decided not to reuse, must be something to it.sTan
