4.10's and street driving

Silly, Just silly!

I was making a left hand turn, at about 1/4 throttle, just putsing along, when all of a sudden it shifts into 2nd, the FTVB shifts hard, and I'm perpendicular to the direction I wanted to be heading.

I had to stop, (alot of traffic). Straighten it out and continue on my way.

ANYONE who has 3.55 gears should really consider 4.10 gears, They Peg the fun meter!

smoking the tires at 30mph... NO problemo! It was in the high 50's today so the pavement was still cool. But man it was fun.

We've had crappy weather in Michigan since I've had the gears put in so I haven't been driving it, until today I went through 1/2 tank of gas, just f#cking around... Worth every penny spent.

How much does it cost for the gears and speedo calibration?

l-menace Apr 28, 2005 11:41 PM

I got a killer deal on the gear.
so I'm not sure what the average price is. I didn't just get a ring and pinion, I got the entire rear end Brand New. and all bearings etc...

I had Sal recalibrate my chip so the speedo and odometer is right. I think he charged $30 for the reburn... actually I'm not sure I just gave him my Credit card.

Sup Scott....

Would 4.10's be worth the move from 3.73?

AZ fun Apr 29, 2005 07:26 AM

I had 3.55 gears and went to 4.10s will never go back. But if I had 3.73s I would not have gone to 4.10s. So my answer is save your money if you have 3.73 gears

4.10's are in my future...............cant wait

birdy111 Apr 29, 2005 11:59 AM

are those 4.10s having any noticeable effect on gas mileage? I'm considering the swap from the 3.55s. I like to drive around 80 on the freeway, so I think that may not be the best for highway driving. However if the motor doesn't mind the extra revs (with respect to gas mileage) then I may just have to go for it. What do you guys think?

l-menace Apr 29, 2005 12:02 PM

With the 4.10 gears at 80 mph my rpm's went up right about 350rpms over the 3.55 i had before.

Slick_Sammy Apr 29, 2005 12:29 PM

you'll definitely lose some mpg with 4.10s especially @ highway speeds. you're engine is turning more rpm. kind of like running your truck without overdrive.

FunFord, only way to correct speedo w/out a chip or reflash is to run some huge monster truck tires to change your ratio back to stock :)
