Gen 1 Question
Gen 1 Question
hey guys, im looking to get a cheap (around $5k) truck for daily driving/work deliveries.
I found a local Gen1 truck thats in my price range. Its 94, 140k miles, new tranny, shift kit, new rear end, k&n, flowmaster and thats it..... supposed to be really clean truck...
iv never bought anything anywhere near 140k miles, but then again, iv never bought a $5k range car either.... I guess you get what you pay for....
but if these things are not highly modded, have no plans of anything major, maybe just efan, etc.. and just regularly driven, are they pretty dependable?? im not looking for a headache, but a solution to my probs....

I bought my 1993 site unseen from Iraq in February . . .
Of course I sent the CrazyOldMan to go check it out for me.
105k miles $5000 with zero mods, but a nice clean truck.
I ordered a tonneau cover, a drive shaft loop, a set of Johnny Lightning's Traction bars, and a pair of 16" American Racing wheels, flew accross country and jumped into it a drove it from SE Pennsylvania to Bradenton Florida for the NMRA race.
After a weekend of consistent 15.5's at 85mph I drove to it to San Diego.
Since then I have replaced a fog light bulb, did an oil change, installed a Bed Rug, and replaced the CD player and window that the neighborhood welcoming commitee took/ broke.
I bought the truck as a tow pig/ shop truck but I enjoy driving it and couldn't be happier with it.
I put 220k on my first Mustang with minimal maintenance so I figured even with 105k she has some life left in her.
Good luck!

Bought my 93 new, and have driven it daily ever since. Now exceeding 180k, it is the best vehicle I ever owned.
It eats front brakes at a fast clip, but no other issues. I even fit 15" wagon wheels with Winter Dueler snow tires on it, and traction is pretty good in the snow.
For the money these older models can't be beat if they have been treated well.

Scott,
It sounds like a really nice truck. The Ford 5.0/5.8 Windsor motors last a long, long time with proper care and maintenance.
I'm willing to bet the biggest issue with the truck you are looking at is the cosmetics. Mechanically they should run and last for quite awhile with minimal expenditures.
I had a '94 L and really enjoyed it. Looking back I probably should have kept it.
