Front Rotor Play

Hey all, I am replacing my front rotors and have just packed the new berrings and put the rotor in place. I screwed the main rotor nut on to the point that there wasnt any play when i pushed and pulled the rotor. Then i put the thingy that the cotter pin fits into over the nut but the cotter pin didnt fit into one of the grooves. I had to loosen the nut 2 or 3 turns to get the cotter pin to do its job. The problem is that there is now about 1/8th" play of the rotor on the spindle...is that ok?

That does not sound good. 2 or 3 turns out?
Was there a spacer behind the big bearing that got left in the old rotor?
Throw up a pic if you can of the cotter pin problem.
If the pin does not line up with the castle nut it should only take a 1/16 or so movement of the nut to open up a hole.
Somethings weird.

Here is a picture showing that i had to back the spindle nut off a bit to get the cotter pin to hit a slot...

and here is a short video showing the play of the rotor on the spindle...

You shouldn't have any play at all.

Here's the procedure ...

You shouldn't have to back out the nut 2-3 turns! Tighten the nut to the correct tension and then try again. If the cotter pin won't fit, try removing the "crown" (sorry, can’t remember the actual name) and rotate it slightly. Then put it back on the nut. Try all the way around incrementally, and if that doesn't work you should only need to back the nut off less than 20 degrees to find a combination that works.

Good Luck,

David

It's all in that link ... very wierd Torque ... FT LBS up until the very
last tightening, then INCH pounds ... The bolts aren't very high
torque. the backs are 10mm and very easy to break off.

All the specs are HERE

Great news. It seemed that it was going in to far and I remember that mine had a spacer in the hub as well.
As my pappy once told me, "Kid even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while" Guess I guessed right this time.
Glad it worked out for you

Nice video!

Thanks guys, well i still feel like a complete moron. All i could find in those articles ky-svt was the following:

Front caliper mounting bolts: 26lb/ft
Front spindle bolt: i couldt tell if it was 30lb/ft or 17lb/in, tricky is close...im totally confused, could someone try to bring that down to my level?
Rear caliper mounting/slider bolts: 20lb/ft
Rear brake line bolts: 29lb/ft

I cant seem to find the torque spec for the front caliper slider bolts.

Did you look at the front wheel bearing replacement PDF? It
has step by step instructions including torque specs ... I can't
open the PDF's on the hotel computer cause it doesn't have
adobe loaded or I would post 'em for ya.
