Lightning with 100k miles

Obviously, this one is not new. I need some good opinions on what I may be getting into. With this many miles, sounds like it may be a good candidate for a JDM build up and a tranny rebuild to make it a real stree fighter. Would love some input on this.

What's the year, general condition, price and current (if any) mods?

My buddy has a 2000 L with 118K and he's had now problems. It was stock save for a glass-pack catback and a filter. He hasn't gotten into the 13's with it yet, but he's kinda scared to push it.

The built motor and trans idea sounds like a good one, if the original price is good.

It's a Red 2000. Well, the price is still up in the air. I'm hoping to get it for 12k, or less. Condition is claimed to be very good. But, not actually seeing it, that is all relative. I've seen some pictures and it does not look bad. My thinking is to get a high mileage truck and ditch the worn parts and rebuild it like a lot of people here are doing.

Not a bad idea at all!

I bought a great 22K mile truck for $25k and then had to replace the motor anyway when I broke a rod - You'll be on the right side of the $ equation in this deal, especially if your plans included a built motor at some point anyway.

12K + built motor, + at a minumun you would stick a FTVB in it plus a flush, re-grease everything, replace all fluids, check brakes and suspension for wear and might need to re-build the rear end...... I guess it would be hard to find a truck with less miles for 12K unless you can find one with a blown motor ? Seems like a good start

I would do it. If it was well maintained, you won't have to replace much (a quick inspection underneath will tell you that). If the truck is stock, throw a chip/filter/pulley on it. You might not need a built motor. Mine has 85,000 hard miles on it. 45k running the power in my sig. I wouldn't trade it for a low mile one for anything.

Even if you blow it or it has a weak motor/tranny, you'll still have a monster after the build for around the price of a low mile, stock one.

I know 12k bucks would be a steal for my truck.

No Dodge, but he's on 20's and we still need to do plugs and clean his intercooler. He's trying to avoid the Mod Bug, but I'm working on him!!

Im looking for a beater car so I dont have to drive my L. If I could find an L for around 12 I would buy it. Even if it wasnt in good condition. Not only a beater but a project. That would be funny though.

"What kinda car is your L a beater for?"

"A Lightning"

Great Deal

I bought a wrecked 2003 and had it fixed up. It was $15,900 wrecked. I would say $12,000 is a great deal...Before/After!!
