Will I be safe running 104oct Unleaded racing?

I just got my 6#er on about a week ago and James from RWTD sent me 3 new tunes for it one is 17deg max,one is 17deg max for my 26" M/T Slicks and the other is 15deg max cold weather. My question is I get light detonation at the top of 2nd gear which I let off immediatly so I'm running the 15deg tune and it just fine accually seems to be smoother and pull harder to red and the 17deg tune so you really do loose alot of power when our motors start to detonate. I am going to the track firday and only have a 17deg tune for my M/T slicks would I be safe to run 104 and the 17deg race tune I have. The truck has just a hair over 1/4 93 oct now so should be close to 100% of 104 by friday. What do you guys think.
Thanks,
jeff

From: medford or
jeff. I ran 18 deg with a 6# lower, with 94-95 oct, 4 2 yrs no problems. I have never raced below 50 deg at our track. If you get into 30-40 deg be carefull. Make sure your fuel filter is in good cond, and up your oct yo at least 100 oct. Good Luck

if you get "light" detonation it can"F" you up like "DARK" detonation.

if you run the 103 and get detonation at 18 degree's then there is a problem.

giver hell and if you hear sumtin let OFF

Too much octane and you'll slow down

I'd say to use an excell spread sheet and just figure out what mix would give you a 95-96 octane. That'll be just enough to get you out of detonation and not too far over the edge to loose power.

On a modded truck it isn't as likely to happen but the higher octane the gas is rated at the slower (generally) it will burn. Great for a high boost, high timing setup and the only way to be safe. However, if a stock to mild truck were to fill up with 110 octane there's a good chance he'd dyno/e.t worse than with pump gas IF pump gas is all he needed to prevent detonation.

In other words, run the octane your tune and mods require, maybe with a slight buffer but do not get carried away.
