The hardest thing I had to except about owning a Lightning is:

One Bad tank of Gas
One Clogged Injector
A Clogging / Clogged Fuel Filter
Or even a few seconds of Detonation
UNDER THE WRONG CONDITIONS

could =

It was extremely hard for me to grasp that, and even harder to face the facts that each and every one of us is driving a potential time bomb, BUT IT'S UNFORTUNATELY TRUE...

Yes low octane "could" = Detonation
and Detonation could and DOES kill

As for the "it's a conspiracy", hell ya it is, (@$%(@$#@($#@$#
heheheheehehehe....

one bad tank of gas=boom, tell me about it I had taken all the precautions to prevent boom and as far as I know it was a bad tank of gas that did me in, all of my pistons, and my plugs showed no signs of detonation, yet there is a 5in wide hole in my block and I haven't driven my truck in 10 months.
As far as the low octane goes, when I get my built motor done I will ask the tuner for a "low octane" program to use for traveling in case I cannot find 93 should I venture far from home, It would suck taking a long road trip and not being able to find 93.

I dont get why people make such a big deal about $6 of gas compared to $4000+ new motor. Why take the chance.

all we have here in north west texas is 90 octane. i have run it with no problems, 14lbs of boost and a psp chip, it was fast but i knew if i had better fuel it would have been faster. 90 octane wont hurt anything if your chip is burned for it. i dont know why they dont sell 93 here

YES you can run 87 octane in your lightning.

You do NOT have to worry about the engine.

All you have to do is remove the supercharger belt.

Only 90 Octane in TEXAS - that just doesnt make sense. Even in North Texas, with all those Oil Wells in even across the border in Oklahoma. I know the proximity of Wells doesnt equate to the quality of oil at the local gas station, but that just really strikes me as odd. Plus, Ive been drinking tonight.

I've been meaning to ask that..... l-menace mentions removing the belt to the supercharger.....can you actually do this without throwing a SES light. If you do run it without the belt, does the engine go back to the 260HP that the normal 5.4's have?

actually less becuase we have lower compression.

You can remove the s/c belt and drive NO problem. I've done it alot

If you drive with no SC belt does the SC just spin from the air going through or is there enough clearance for the air to get around.

I-menace, what does that feel like in the seat of the pants meter.

Yep

When mine had @4-5K on it, BRAND FRIGGING NEW, I stopped at a Amoco on the way to the track. I kind of felt it running weird but being un-aware at the time I made a pass.

Took off and man oh man did it detonate (first and last time I ever heard it) the results were this,

and I got off it in prob less than a second or two
No doubt in my mind another few seconds and BOOM.......

Put a new filter and plugs in it, went back and WAM
my first 12, it was all due to the bad gas

From: Colorado,
Just thought of another question.

I live and drive at 5,000 feet up here in Denver where it is snowing a blizzard right now!!!

Aside from the cold I was woundering if it would actually be better to run less than 91 octane to get the faster burn. I am well aware of the detonation issue but was woundering what you guys thought.

That would be on a stock truck with no tune......

I recently got a new 04 fuel injected SV650s Suzuki motorcycle and it recommends 87 octane in the manual. I have from habit run the 91 and can't really say the seat of the pants meter noticed anything.

The bike compression ratio is also 11.5 to 1. Sucker gets over 50MPG to

It's SLow! Real slow. slower than a regular 5.4 or 4.6 f150

Yes the supercharger will spin because of the air gong through it, but not really fast.

LOL, did good ol' George Bush get his wish for the drilling in Alaska program? I have'nt heard anything about it lately. Schiavo and the Pope have been the only talk in the news, well along with Michael Jackson.

Also if he did somehow by a true act of God get that program passed, do you think it will help out our prices? Or will we just give it to more Asian countries so they will continue to keep our electronics prices down (which is what we do now with our current pipeline in Alaska. Give it all to Japan so they don't jackup our electronics prices)?

Oh and one more thing, did you guys know that the price of oil actually changes "in transit" while it is crossing the ocean on it's way to America? Somehow that just does'nt seem right.
