Question Timing and high boost

What kind of timing are you guys running on high boost setups? I'm talking 17 pounds and up. Street tune as well as race tune with at least 100 octane....Just trying to gather some data...

4# lower + ported Apten = 17# on the dyno and street (colder air). Ran 17* timing overall street-strip tune.

I believe 21/22* on the JLP race chip for 104+ octane.

Yea, that is peak timing - I think it actually hits 17.5 towards the end of the run. I saw the timing chart when the truck was being tuned

Jeff -

Pump gas (93octane) 15deg @ 19-20psi on the KB. I do not have a race gas tune at this time.

KB with 19 psi and 15 degrees of timing. 91 octane and alcohol injection. Race timing with 100 octane is 20 degrees.

Hey buddy

Do you have a water/alcohol injection system on your truck?

I'm thinkin of getting one
Are you happy with the results?

Yes it helps quite a bit. I run straight alcohol now though as the water/alcohol mix made the truck surge. Weird as I have used straight water in other supercharged vehicles and they worked awesome.

I run the Snow Performance kit now and have used the SMC kit also. Both work excellent.

As an example, on our 91 octane a friend has a ported Eaton at 15 psi; he can only safely run 11 degrees of timing at that boost. 13 degrees pings good, and 12 is cutting it too close.

I can run 19-20 psi of boost and 15 degrees of timing with a KB, alky, and the same 91 octane. Quite a difference. I have tried 17 degrees with the same 20 psi of boost and alky and there was no pinging either, but I backed it off a couple degrees for a safer street tune.

6lb lower with an Apten/Eaton (15-16 lbs?). I don't have a "real" boost gauge.

16* timing on 93 octane.

Gets light ping at 17* at the top of 2nd & 3rd gears.

At the track, 18 degrees on 100 octane unleaded.

(I love timing threads).

Looks like I'll adjust my timing some... I'll stay at 15/16 on 93 and 18/19 on 100. I can make small adjustments with this extreme tuning software...
