Rob, that hissing noise you're hearing is the high side and low side of your system equalling out because you shut the system off. When you start it up again, your compressor builds the high side back up again. Perfectly normal. If you're leaking, it won't stop hissing (unless it's a very slow leak, then you won't hear it in the first place).

If you have some bad o-rings, you should find some oily residue at one of your hose connections. The worst offender is where the hoses connect to the condensor. Seems that area likes to leak the worst.

Rob, I suspect the hissing noise is not the AC. Try this link where I've discussed this before https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...ighlight=noise. Try the test and see what happens. Please report back.

BTW, I run the AC everyday. Never had a probelm in 6 years. But heck, it was only 86 yesterday.

Joel......

Some peeps say leave the can upright, I find it doesn't seem to matter, but then again I never read directions, hehehehe.
In response to this, it doesnt matter with a small bottle of freon which way you hold it. The only reason someone might say to hold it upside down is because in a bottle of freon there is liquid and gas in the bottle and A/C systems have both liquid and gas in the lines. When you flip the bottle it feeds one in or the other. By flipping the bottle you just can make the process move a little faster. This is normally done when charging large systems, not for our L's. Just thought I would share this seeing how you guys help me out everyday and i can finally give a little info back.....even if it isn't that helpful. Thanks!!

You shouldn't liquid charge on the lowside with the vehicle running, the compressor can't compress a liquid and you risk damaging it.
