Angry Tranny #2 Failed!

My stroy...my factory tranny failed at 1400 miles(I have a 2004)...I have only the regular bolt ons from the supporting vendors and a cutom chip....So...I decided to go with another one that could handle more pressure...I bought it from a famous vendor too....Failled at 2000 miles...the new tranny came with everything a VB is one of them...my truck is not making crazy power 410 rwhp at best.

I thought its the chip the first time ...since I wanted more bolt ons...I decided to reburn after the 1st tranny was gone...with a new reburn the 2nd tranny failed too.

I am not going to mention the vendors...dont know what the cause yet. what do you guys think?....I am going crazy..thinking to sell the truck because I am afraid that if I put a new tranny its goin bad too. My mechanic is experienced...so what the hell is going wrong?

I heard that people had multiple failing trannys ...but not in such short time!!
HELP...I need some beer

Waz,
First off sorry to hear about you troubles. What kind of failures are you having with the transmissions>??? Have you spoken with whomever you bought the trans from or whomever built it>??? That would be the first step that needs to get taken. If it is someone reputable they should be for then glad to help you if it is a faulty product and not install error. But let me know what the symptoms are and I will be more then glad to try and help ya. I do know a thing or 2 about transmissions. Atleast I think I do. Best of luck. -Mat-

I dont know exactely what part failed...but the symptoms were the same....2 4500 rpm revs in a row...and then the tranny struggles (over revs 1st and then slips to neutral)..now its just slippin...exactely like the first time...my problem is that these vendors dont want to deal with each others stuff...the tranny people dont wana study my case cause the chip people are no cool....and I am lost in the middle.

when my 1st tranny failed I asked the tunner to supply the info to let the other guy burn it...didnt happen...."they know what to do...we dont talk"....so I had the tunner that I got the chip from to study the contents of the tranny and burn the chip having in mind that the tranny comes with a VB.

this time I dont know whats going to happen...Ill talk to the tunner that sold the tranny on monday

I wish I had more knowledge in trannys.

based on most of the posts on here - I thought letting the chip control the tranny = kaboom tranny?

Did you flush or change out your trans cooler after the failure?

Was the line pressure raised on your chip(s)? Was the torque reduction system disabled? If the line pressure was raised, it's my understanding that it bad for the pump. Combine that with disabled torque reduction and it can't be good.

If your running a single program chip and the line pressure is raised, then that means the pressure is raised all of the time and that may be what killed your tranny's.

Also, usually having the chip reburned is to adjust the air/fuel so you are not running to lean but there could be some shift point adjustments as well. When you had the chip reburned, what adjustments were made to the chip?

Don't know what vendors your talking about but it's a shame that you have to suffer their differences.

Here is a thread by Greg Evans discussing raised line pressure. This guy knows our transmissions inside and out.

http://www.nloc.net/forum/showthread...=Line+pressure

IMHO I wouldn't sell your L just yet. Give Greg a call and talk to him. Maybe he can shed some light on your tranny problems.

The more I think about you being caught in the middle of these vendors inability to work with each other the more it pisses me off. If you can't get some resolution you may have to find a new transmission guy to work with your tuner or a new tuner to work with your transmission guy. If you still can't get satisfaction you may just have to let the cat out of the bag and divulge the vendors but hopefully you won't have to do that.

If you ever get your truck dialed in you will be one happy camper.

Keep us posted and good luck.

That is what it sounded like to me; maybe you didn't flush it all out???

But; what's up with all the hush hush on vendors and products! If a part is failing then it's time for that vendor to step up to the plate and fix it. If it's a problem let the other members of the community know about before it happens to us!

I may be remembering wrong, but I could have sworn I read a post at one time by Greg Evans recommending a transmission fluid filter be installed when replacing a trashed tranny.

Did you have a filter put in it? Even if Greg didn't recommend it, I would put one in anyway if I where in that position. It's pretty cheap insurance.

Rocks

To my knowledge that my multiple program chip was burned with the existance of a valve body in mind...so no change in line pressure.

I did eliminate torque reduction in the tune...BUT...that was after asking the tranny people if its ok...they actaualy told me that I should do that to use the fact that my tranny is heavy duty one....the tranny was made to handle double my HP #s...so I dont think that was the problem...I trust their knowledge.

we will wait and see...I just wanted to tell you guys that the couple of hours I had my lightning for with the new tranny were a blast...with the few mods I have this truck is Very FAST....damn...no wonder you guys are so crazy about this truck...I owned too many sport cars in my life ....corvettes...vipers ....M3s...you name it....this truck def has its own flavor. I hope the problem would go away.

Thanks guys

I once had the problem you were talking about, but it was in the chip and since you are not using that chip........it may be something else. I have a BTS tranny now and could not be happier, and right at 1000 RWTQ it handles it easily.
