Question Accuracy of factory boost gauge?

Just how accurate is it and how much boost is a stock L supposed to acheive? My only mods are a modified factory air box with K&N panel filter, boost bypass mod and bassani catback but my boost gauge shoots up to 10 and even a little beyond at full boost. Is this normal? I plan on getting a 4# lower and tune for my next mod and was wondering, is it necessary to to know exactly how much boost you are running making it necessary to install an aftermarket boost gauge? Noob questions I'm sure, but I'm still learning.

Hello chesster, I have an 02 stock except for bassani exhaust also. My gauge pegs at 10lbs also when stock is supposed to be 8. I ve heard on here that factory gauge isnt very accurate.

The factory boost gauge is about as accurate as the oil pressure "gauge," meaning that it will show you whether there is boost, but you sure as hell can't rely on it to tell you how much.

Up to 10lbs it should be fairly accurate. It's not an electric gauge, but a mechanical one ...

I would trust it up to 10lbs as much as any autometer cheapo.

Just another $.02 (American)

When stock, my gauge would not go above 8--pretty much what the factory claims. Now, with a +4pulley and CAI, even though the numbers run out, it hits right between where 12-14 would be-----so I'm saying, gauge is not informative enough, but not grossly off.--- How accurate do you need?--I dunno. If they had just made the range larger to start with, in anticipation that someone MIGHT eventually raise their boost level, it wouldn't be so bad. A friend of mine with a Cobra told me about overlays they were getting to extend the numbers on up----but I don't know where they were getting them.

Help is coming soon for anyone wanting to be able to read up to 16# of boost accurately on the stock gauge. In the next week or so the Hilton Boost Overlay for the Lightning will be available for purchase. You will lose the ability to read vacuum, but it will be able to read boost extended up to 16#. It works awesome.

The website will be available in a week or so. When it's available I'll post a link.

My '01 goes to 10#'s when at full throttle. Truck is 100% bone stock. So I would say it's off by 2#'s @ any given reading.

I think mine is fearly accurate. Stock my guage hit 8 PSi at WOT. Now with the AF1 and 4 LB pilley it is showing about where I would expect 12 PSI to be.
