This is probably a stupid question, the service manager at Sarasota Ford told me that my warranty would still be good with a catback exhaust and an intake. Then he said "unless if you put too much oil on the filter. " He said over oiling the filter would show because there would be oil in the engine. What is he talking about. I never heard of oiling an intake filter.

K&N air filters come pre-oiled and this helps to trap little particles of dust and such. Once they get dirty, which depends on your climate (dirt roads, lots of dust in your area, etc) they have to be “recharged”.

Recharging a K&N filter means buying a recharging kit from K&N, through an auto parts store usually. This kit comes with oil for oiling the filter. The filter gets cleaned real good, to flush the dirt out, then needs to be re-oiled.

Many people over oil their filters. What happens then is you will get this oil all over you MAF sensors and that can cause problems, sometimes big problems since the computer uses the MAF to tell it how much or how little air is flowing into the motor. The computer takes this information, as well as other things, to adjust how much fuel the motor gets.

Worse case scenario you could find yourself with a very lean running motor and BOOM motor blows up. Ford takes a look and if they find oil all over the MAF no warranty coverage.

Personally I would never recharge my own filter. They are not that much more expensive if you buy it on the web. When mine gets dirty I will throw it out and put in another new correctly “pre-oiled” one from the factory.

Has nothing to do with “oil in the engine” just oil on the MAF. Now you will most likely get “oil in the engine” through the intake due to Ford’s PVC system, that’s another story but it will not harm the MAF.

That's easy to avoid - just buy filters that don't require oiling...

For a little extra peace of mind, you can get the outer filter cover to slip over the main air filter.

If you have a place to work, you can install it in a couple of hours. The reason I say a couple of hours is it takes 45 minutes for the fluid to drain and stop dripping from everywhere in the tranny.

I have the torque wrench and I've installed several of these - if you want some help, shoot me an e-mail...

Cool

B-Man and I live in the Tampa Area...for Tampa Area L' stuff you may want to check out this site.

http://southernsvtlightning.mywowbb.com/

I'm in the process of moving to Boca/West Palm over the next few months.

As far as oiling the filter, I have been using the K&N cleaning kit w/o a problem but I do take care not to over-saturate the filter w/ oil....take some practice but it's not too bad. E-Mail me or B-Man about the FTVB if you need help...

When I was using the 95mm mass air tube I got a lean code. All I did was go back to the OEM 90mm MAF with the MAC adapter and all was fine. I am presently using the AccuFab throttle body, the C&L True Flow inlet pipe, the MAC/Motoblue CAI and the Ford 90mm MAF. With this combination I have been very happy.
