Question Stock block + MP + what size lower pulley?

Just installed the MP, MP idler, and dynatech LT headers/cats. I currently have a 6lb lower on the truck. Sal is coming to St Louis this Friday for a tuning session.

The question is, how risky would it be stepping up to a 8lb lower knowing I'm going to get a quality dyno tune?

I'm not to familiar with your set up. Is the bottom end stock?

If not.. then I'd be looking at IAT2 temps and judging how much heat your putting to the chamber.

Bottom end is stock. Last years setup was a ported eaton with a 6lb lower. IAT2's in the 130's usually. Now I have the LT's and a MP with the 2.7 upper. I haven't run it hard since I'm waiting to be tuned this coming weekend.

Just do it... I want to see what a vented L block looks like in person.

I've got the 6# pulley with my MP. I intend to add ported heads to my stock block setup, when the time for more power comes around again, instead of moving up to the 8# one. Getting the engine breathing more freely seems like a good idea for longevity to me.

i have run the 8lb lower with the magnum

once you have the extra boost its tough to go back

i tryed to run it only on the race program only but it was addicitng

yes, i had the full exhaust. i seen 19.5 lbs of boost a few times

i have since gone to a built block

but the guy who bought my motor said it was in perfect condition when he tore it down.

i also checked the compression everytime i changed/checked the plugs.

i checked the rod to crank bearings when i pulled the motor and they were perfect.

i have no doubt in my mind that motor would have lasted for years with those boost levels

that is quite a testament to the magnum if you ask me. any other blower would have caused a lot of wear and tear imho

FWIW

I ran a stock longblock with a 6lb lower and a 1 lb upper for a long time. First with an Apten port job and then to a Magnum. Motor ran fine, with peak boost hitting the 21.5 mark on my AutoMeter.
I stepped the lower up to an 8 lber for a short time, but got nervous and bought myself a built motor for Christmas

I have a built motor in my future, but not yet. Trying to maximize the current setup.

It's crazy how much boost you guys are running on a stock block. I guess it really is, "all in the tune"

I can understand that. Then going to an 8lber is pushing it, as you well know.
FWIW.......after installing the ported heads, I lost 3 lb's peak boost. So maybe going with ported heads and a 8lb lower would really MAXIMIZE your set-up

I think ported heads ordered, delivered and installed by Thursday night would be pushing it I guess I'll just be patient until this summer and stick with the 6lb.

my motor vented with the magnum and 6lb lower, without the added boost from the MP idler setup, I did have a dyno tune, longtubes, upgraded fuel system, etc. Unless you have some money set aside for a built motor I'd take it easy with the boost, Its alot more fun to drive the truck than to watch it sit in the driveway.
