Bumper ?

Don't waste your time. I remove the tailgate, pass. seat, spare tire, all the easy stuff. Tow hitch has already been history since I don't tow. If you're that worried about weight, move your battery to the back.

Did you get beat by a guy with no seat?
Fastest time does not always win the money.Bracket racing is about knowing what your truck can do.. Ask Paul Gambino(sp)..He won FFWs with a regular ol F150.

That's a good idea, John.
I was going to do that last year and never got around to it.

Thanks for the reminder

FF

PS: Maybe I'll leave the bumper off for a while. I hear that it acts like a parachute to the air exiting from under the truck.
Gotta get me a louvered roll pan

I understand how bracket racing works. If your happy running consistent 17's.... go for it.

As I stated making your truck faster, whether it be by engine mods or by removing weight is no different to me.

I still say if your watching the bumper all the way down the track...... you lost.

This discussion is very on point.

I have not raced in a while..back in "99 the Lightning was a marvel and getting low 13s in a stock (98%) BOLT was very cool.

I'm thinking of starting up again with a very very modest budget and this discussion prompts me to say.

It is all relative..isn't it... taking the seats out, the tailgate off, reducing weight anyway you can is being belittled a bit.

How about spending 1,000s of dollars in modifications ?

How about both.. 1,000s in mods and taking off the bumper..?
how about replacing the fenders with firberglass replicas..?

If you are seriously hung up on getting that last .00x of performance your gonna be depressed.. 1. your bolt will get old, 2. you'll spend more and more money, 3. the next guy will spend even more, or I suppose you should get a sponsor and become a pro and then it becomes work.

For me... I like a Lightning that 1. looks good (like a Lightning) and 2. runs good. Trailer queens and hatched jobs ( remove read bumper) leave me wondering if the sport is worth it.

Its all about going fast to impress yourself or your friends...or is it that feeling of having a great run no matter what your situation is ?

i think racing is racing. if you want to take the bed out of the truck then do it.

most pepole dont have the desire to do that, but some do.

i always thought you would have to be a complete nut to put a built bottom end in our trucks.

well, once i started racing it was so much fun for me that i am willing to do just about anything to the truck.

for me it has to be able to be a daily driver. so i have spent thousands of dollars to shave off tenths of seconds.

so taking of some parts to run quicker doesnt seem that dumb to me.

i love to be challanged and to challange other lightning owners.

and when they know you cant run as fast as them, and beat them (or visa versa) its a blast.

so when you go to the track and you see all these parts laying around just remember someone wasnt as lazy as you are. and that someone just waxed your pig

Ya? Why don't you bend over and I'll knock you in the keester? I'll send you home with a I just poped the neighbors cat look on your face.

This exchange has me busting a gut. I can't wait to read some more to see the response to this.

Oh yeah...do you mean "popped" the neighbors cat, or is "poped" meant to be some kind of Catholic joke. If it's poped, I don't think that is funny considering the man is sick and all.

If it was a Catholic joke, it wouldn't have been a cat to worry about!!

Just a couple of things...

If you guys are gonna race at a IHRA/NHRA or NMRA/FFW event you'd better also install an external battery cut-off switch when moving the battery to the rear!

Also at FFW events they don't allow removing the pass seat!!

Typo fixed. But, poping a cat does sound pretty damn funny!

HI!... All I know is that my F-150 truck weighs in at 4100LBS with me in it and I weigh 215LBS. So 3900LBS for just my truck is pretty light. The thing is though, you look at my truck and you can't tell that anything has been removed except for the rear bumper due to the STREET SCENE roll pan. There are all kinds of things that can be removed off these trucks to make it lighter. Just depends on how far you want to go.
