Question sludge in valve covers

over the past couple of months i have been getting a heavy build up of some type of sludge in the valve covers.my oil seperator was alaways catching this but recently when i remove the oil filler cap all i can see of the valve cover is coated.i do not remember ever seing this before.the last time i changed my oil i used 10w-30 insted of the 5w30.could that be the cause? is this a "bad thing" any info would be appreciated.

What brand, weight and type of oil are you using? Do you have a lower temp. thermostat installed? Where is your coolant level at? Do you have a chip or tune installed?

Ouch... Tell ya what "used to work" back before all these new engine cleaners came out.

drain 2 qts of oil out. put 2 qts of keroseine (sp?) in. Let it idle for about 15 miutes. Change oil and filter. Drive about 500 miles and repeat.

This will clean an awfull lot of that up. THEN! Go with a good oil like mobil 1 fully synthetic. And by all means stick with the new brand you choose.

I would look no further than your oil separator.

i normally use mobil1 5=w30.last oil change i used mobil 1 10-w30.i do not remember seeing any of the sluge (other than what the oil seperator caught) when removing the oil cap and looking inside.i do have a chip in the truck.do not know what the oil pressure is.as far as a thermostat i have not added one since i have owned the truck.i bought it used.the coolant level is fine i have been watching that for a long time.
