What type of helmet to use at FFW

I was looking at the rules for FFW and I saw that a snell helmet was required. First what is a snell? (A brand or a saftey label) And can some one suggest a helmet and the cost for me. I would like to get one before FFW in Orlando.

If you are buying a new helmet, get at least a Snell SA 2000 rating.

What is the difference with a Motorcycle helmet and a Snell. I see cycle helmets used all the time at the track. Do they not allow these at FFW. I only plan on running at one FFW event. I would hate to buy one if I only use it once.

Snell # is like a level of protection, or type of protection offered. From what I understand at least.

I have a cheap-o G-Force helmet ($100 or so) from jegs that is up to spec for the track.

I have heard that motorcycle helmets have far less requirements as far as safety is concerned, which sounds nuts to me.......maybe its a state by state basis.

Motorcycle helmets are designed very well for impacts. But, they are not designed for fire. The car specific helmets are designed for fire. I am not sure if FFW is picky or not, but some places are.

Don't spend tons of money on your truck, and mods then go cheap protecting your own brain. Get a good helmet.

What CA said!!!If nothing else and you only decide to run once then maybe borrow a GOOD helment form someone. The biggest problem I see is that they do not fit correctly.Mkae sure that when you have it on that it fits VERY snug.It should almost hurt getting it on.And yes the snell is a safety cert.An auto[SA] is nomex lined[for fire]verse the M[motorcycle] is not. After all how many motorcycle riders do you know that have gotten burnt, most I know of have bad road rash when they fall!!Stan
PS run what I do I have to step up to the plate this year and buy a HANS device and they are only about a grand!!! STan

must be snell rated m95 or m2000

but i would step up in the safety aspect and choose a helmet that has a sa2000 rating for the fire retardent materials.

i have a simpson bandit and love it.

just remember its your face and head that it might save

I agree will all. But I am not going to buy a helmet for one race. I will barrow one at the track. Or pick one up at a vender there.

OK I will go buy one and wear every time I drive down the highway, just in case I have a fire or get in a wreck! I can justify a throttle body for everday use but not a helmet. I will borrow one at the track. I just wanted to know what you can use and waht you can't use.

This board sucks with the people that say the most obvious things like SAFETY! Don't you think I know safety comes first.

you asked what you needed and we told you.

not sure how ffw techs in but nmra writes down the style and name/color of the helmet.

when you say borrow one? from who? everyone that runs the truck class will need them at the same time. if you mean borrow one from the track itself i would suggest calling them to see if you can during a national event.

how often do you go to the track? are you saying this is the only event or time you will ever go to?

Ok not to argue, but here is what I asked :First what is a snell? (A brand or a saftey label) And can some one suggest a helmet and the cost for me. I would like to get one before FFW in Orlando.
No where did I ask or say I was going to run the event without a helmet or with a motorcycle helmet I was asking what the difference was , which people responed. I thank those few people that answer the question however, I don't like the comments about how I am not thinking about my life and how I spend money on parts and not safety. I said I would like to purchase one or borrow on before I run my truck.

I have a friend in orlando that has a helmet in regulation. He is running in the mod class.

Thanks for everyone that is concerned with my safety.
