No where did I ask or say I was going to run the event without a helmet or with a motorcycle helmet I was asking what the difference was , which people responed. I thank those few people that answer the question however, I don't like the comments about how I am not thinking about my life and how I spend money on parts and not safety. I said I would like to purchase one or borrow on before I run my truck.

I have a friend in orlando that has a helmet in regulation. He is running in the mod class.

Thanks for everyone that is concerned with my safety.
Since these truck run 13's or faster, every time you go to a track you will be able to use your helmet. If you're racing FFW, it seems like you are a racer. Once you have it, you'll be glad you got it, this way you don't have to hesitate about going to run your truck. I know I'm a little wierd about somebody else sweating and god knows what else in hy helmet. Kinda a personal thing. But that's just me.

Maybe using a cheap helmet is part of the Darwins plan. Sorry I suggest you use a good helmet. Use a cheap motorcyle helmet if that suits you. You can likely get a SA2000 as cheap as $99 at Walmart.

one at the track. I just wanted to know what you can use and
waht you can't use.

This board sucks with the people that say the most obvious
things like SAFETY! Don't you think I know safety comes first.

OK ... Have it your way ... You are MUCH more likely to
roll your truck on the drag strip than you are cruising down
the highway at 55 ... Unless of course you're one of those
boneheads that endanger everyone on the road by driving
140 mph.

The people that were TRYING to give you the skinny are
professional racers and mature thinking adults who realize
fully what you were asking ... And the Board doesn't suck...
the people that refuse to spend a small modicum of effort
before asking for help do.

Hum????? Sometimes I wonder about this website. It's people like you that just baffle me of what questions you are trying to answer. You still insist on selling me on a safety issue that I didn't even ask about. But if you would like to keep selling become a car sales man......or women!

And I respect speed and other people on the roads. Seems like you are old, balding and can't stand not having the last word. So you may reply again on how i need to wear a correct helmet that I will be using anyways, and tell me that I am young and like to drive 140mph.
I hear KY is a great place......lots of hill-----------------------billies

Have a great day!

I have a M-2000 rated helmet. I didn't know any better when I got it. I have raced in 3 FFW events and never had a problem. but if I had known better I would have gotten the SA rated one.

The only difference between the M2000 and the SA2000 are the interior materials, either Nomex or nylon.
Both are equally accepted at IHRA/NHRA/FFW events!

I would suggest the GF750 in jegs as already suggested, but if you are looking to save $50, it is available in the M2000 nylon version for 99.00

Also, most tracks will sell cheapo helmets at their gift shop!

Not true ... The differences go to the testing of repeated impacts,
along with flammability. This means repeated impacts with
the "roll-cage" or interior "hard" points are tested and passed.

As Tim has said and posted the information is all at www.snell.org

I was talking about a specific helmet such as the GF750 Nomex Vs. the GF750 Nylon...The only difference in the two helmets is the interior lining!
Sorry, looking at my post, I don't think I made that clear.

I do realize that the rating procedure is different!

Bell only makes the M3 Xtra in oversizes which is a closed face helmet.

If any prefers an open face, the Simpson LX series is available up to size 8!

Which at the moment is on sale at one of the on-line suppliers!

I just picked up a Simspon LX Nylon for 139.00!!

Normal price is 199.00 or higher!

open face helmets are good for visibility and comfort but wont save your face during a flash fire.

sorry but helmets and safety go hand and hand. i would recommend anyone that plans to go to an event like ffw, nmra or wfc than get your own helmet. what happens if you and your buddy happen to go to the final rounds were there is not enough time between there runs and your to get the helmet to you in time.

Yes are all aware the full face helmets are better than open face helmets!

If you have ever been to a FFW event you know the the Lightning community all pulls together and helps each other out.
I have made it to the final round several times and there is always a crew of guys carrying water and tools, ice etc.. up to me in the staging lanes to make sure I will be ready for the final...if a driver needed anything, such as a helmet, you can bet a fellow driver would be there to help out, even if it were the final round!
