Greetings from the UK
Wow, so many replies!
Unfortunately, I cannot upload any more pictures to the photo galleries for some technical reason. I'll keep trying so that you guys can see the L.
A Lightning meet in this country would be awesome. I see that there are a fair few chaps online who are UK resident, so it would be great to hook up and talk L for a while. Beats answering the same old questions about gas mileage!
A sojourn over to Hannover would rock as well, it's not that far, especially in the context of our American chums who can drive for days and stay in the same state! In fact, I'm bringing the truck over to Germany at Easter time - I'm travelling to the Nordschleife with a few friends to see what the truck makes of the World's greatest racing circuit!* Do any of you German guys live near to the Eiffel mountains?
Nicky - nice to hear from you on the thread! I hope you realise that my truck has been living a full life since you last saw it! Why don't you have your truck?
Gas prices are bad, but we can't lay the issue purely at the feet of OPEC. The UK government taxes the cr*p out of our fuel - about 85% of the quoted price is tax. They sure hate the average motorist (er, and the not so average ones
).
Don, you're right, Sunningdale is not far away at all. It's probably for the best that you can't beat the truck. My stocker would probably wet itself in the presence of your 10 second beast.
*For those of you who don't know, the Nordschleife is an amazing racing circuit build in the 1920s and 30s in Germany. It is over 13 miles in length and has over 140 corners! (yup, in just one lap) It is open to the public for five or six weekends a year and it is simply a must do for any European petrol head. They used to hold F1 Grand Prix there until Niki Lauda had a nasty smash in 1976.

Hey German Lightning,
I hope to be there from late on Thursday evening (24th) to perhaps lunchtime on Monday (28th). It would be great if we could meet.
Would you bring your truck on track? I'm aiming for a sub 10 minute lap...
Vielleicht kann ich meine Deutsche Kentnisse verbessern!
(sheesh, I hope that makes some sense!)

OK, so I've finally got some photo's of the truck into the photo galleries. Hopefully they are posted below.

Again, the images are of Santa Pod Raceway in leafy Lincolnshire, England. The track was very cold (low 50s) and no prep meant that traction was poor. Nevertheless, the truck pulled a 13.4s pass bone stock.
No-one in the stands could believe it, and nothing I raced could come close all day (I never saw where that CRX went - through my intake?).
These trucks are awesome!

Well hello there my fellow limey! Well I've half brit anyways...good to see the L being represented over in the UK. I've thought about moving back to england (grew up there when my dad was in the AF) and possibly bringing the Lightning with me. Seems like people notice the truck over there alot more huh? I know that unless you know what I lightning is..I never get much attention here in VA. Good to see you on the board though! Whereabouts in the UK are you? I lived in the Oxfordshire area most of my life...
STRYKS2X, I live in Tunbridge Wells in Kent, about 40 miles south of London. My brother went to University in Oxford up until last year and is actually taking the truck back up there this weekend for an "old boys'" rugby game...small world. The L really is a big hit over here: as I said in my first post, it gets more looks than the 'ol Rex...
Nicky, good to hear that you're on the way to a fresh L. Let me know if you start modifying her...
Dman25, I suppose that cool air goes a long way. Track was also pretty dry. Either way, I'm pretty chuffed with a 13.4. It was only my second day at the drag strip (probably my 8th pass). First time round I couldn't break into the 13s. I'm sure you'll get there soon enough.
Cheers,
Joel

so you must be the other black L I've seen a few times on the A21. I live just outside Tunbridge Wells. I hope you're not doing any mad driving that the locals will blame me for
cheers
Mike
That's $8 a UK gallon, which is $6.40 a US gallon (US pint = 16oz, UK pint = 20oz as beer drinkers will know)
Current price for 94 (US) octane Shell Optimax where I live is 93p, so
0.93 £/litre
4.19 £/UK gallon
3.35 £/US gallon
0.52 Exchange rate
8.02 $/UK gallon
so
6.41 $/US gallon
The other factor making it look expensive is the low value of the dollar, not sure how long that will last
