theres a red one I see all the time by Nathans house (6PM Evans road) but I havent been able to meet him going the same direction..

wow, now this is the CONVERSATION(for those of you who act like English teachers) i was looking for...lots of opinions....and now i have somethings to say to some certain people, dman 25, my bro's eclispe was a 97 but i know nothing else except it has a stock 4 banger, but his jaw dropped when he first test drove a lightning... and i was like" i told you so " Next, Red 92, thats the thing, the guy driven the srt10 better know what the hell he is doing before he talks smack about his truck other wise the lightning could make him look like an idiot. That stick shift could be tricky with that much power Next, l-menace, correction for you---the lightning stood as king of the hill for a good decade, not just 5 years, dont forget the first gen lightning. also i will still stand loyal to ford, my dad and my grandpa were loyal to ford and i always have been and im not going to change that whether they keep making SVT or not. Next, mike00L, i read that in my hot rod magazine when they tested them against each other, they said the lightning was in the 14 sec. i think they are full of ****. Hot rod showed the srt 10 being about a sec quicker than the lightning in the 1/4 mile. Also, red 92, and evo, them are just my abreviations that i use when typing, i find using them much more convenient than typing out the whole word. Lightnings are the ****

The SRT-10 is a nice vehicle, don’t know if you can really call it a truck (towing not recommended), but none the less Dodge calls it a truck.

Yes it is the fastest when it comes to top speed and you have a mile or so of flat ground to get either truck up to full speed. The SRT-10 has a top speed of 154mph I believe and the Lightning 147mph I believe, so is it worth $23k more for 7mph more top speed? Stock for stock, in the ¼ mile the SRT-10 is not the fastest, quickest or what ever you want to call it.

The truth is that in reality they are about equal depending on drivers. I have beat a stock SRT-10 with my stock Lightning twice, granted only by about ½ a truck length, but regardless my $33k sticker (I paid $28.5k new 2003), that can tow 5,000 lbs beat a $55k (what the other guy actually paid for his truck) which is not recommended for towing anything, though some have towed. The clutch is a weak link in the SRT-10 and thus the reason Dodge has an “N/A” or “not recommended” for towing.

So you tell me who is king and remains king, it is the SVT Lightning that is the dominate performance TRUCK and will remain so for some time until someone can actually beat it apples for apples, or real truck against real truck.

The guy I beat twice was a real nice guy, great sport about it. I even kidded with him making fun of that Dodge commercial that has a Hemi drag racing with a standard F150 and beating the standard F150 every single time. I asked him if he wanted to race again but with both of us having a 5,000 lb trailer in tow…

He said, nope…

Another thing is never believe what any magazine states about performance. There is a saying “Don’t believe anything until you see the data” So in the years to come we will see who is actually still the king, stock vs. stock, at the track, road course and ¼ mile…

When you start talking about the fastest modded vehicle it doesn’t matter anymore because if money is unlimited you can make anything fast, even a Yugo…

As someone who has raced an SRT-10 I will share my story.

I caught up with one on the road in Dallas the other day, and we ran quite a few times from rolls and stops. It's quite obvious the trucks are a VERY good match. Down low we seemed to run real close, if not a slight edge to my Lightning. Around 100mph he seems to every so slightly pull on me, giving the edge to the Dodge. He was a nice guy, but was your typical, "I know nothing about this truck other then it has a Viper motor and is suppose to be the fastest". He told me it had "532 horsepower" ... because he added exhaust afterall. At the last stop we ran from he also only wanted to run until the top of 2nd gear, because he has trouble getting it in 3rd.

All in all it's a nice truck, I would probably even be interested in one if there was no Lightning ... but there is. And I just got incentive to add that 4lb pulley, Swanson chip, Monster Box, and 2400 stall sitting in my garage. Next time we meet it won't be such a close race.

For the record:
His mods: exhaust

My mods: CAI, Bassani (plus Goodmark hood and snuglid to add weight)

OK, ... its just easier to read the words than to try to figure out abbreviations. Im not being a **** about it ....it just takes away from your "post sincerity"and makes you look very, very young (13) when you misspell so many words....thats all.

Back to topic, Ford outdid themselves when they introduced the Gen2 Lightning in 1999..........I was impressed.

Dodge was late to respond, but they did and they are KING.....its in the Guinness book of world records dude ....so its true.

Ok red 92, you smartass! haha im just joking, and to let to know i am only 16 but dont missjudge me because many say i dont look like it nor do i act that young. anyways, i will spell my words out . Also, Red 92, I know that towing issue is not much of a bragging right, but towing is what a truck is suppose to do even though if they did just specially make one to be fast. To me, its pretty sad when you can't say your truck is not recommended for towing when it has 500 HP. Also, the only thing that is in guinness is the top speed, that isnt a big thing like the 1/4 mile time is. I agree with 01 XLT Sport,
