diablo chip and torque reduction questions
diablo chip and torque reduction questions
I believe I have the diablo chip installed that has the 2 tunes in it custom tuned by fordchip.com according to the previous owners.
I was informed that there is a street and strip side of this chip/tune.
The street side = 4# tune + torque reduction shifts on 93 octane
The strip side = 6# tune + no torque reduction on 93 octane.
From my understanding the Strip side is the notched side of the threads/switch.
Well for some reason when I put the truck in the STRIP side running the 4# pulley that I am, I get tip-in detonation.
In the middle and what is supposed to be the stock setting.. no tip-in detonation at all.
Is there a way I can know for sure which way the switch position equals besides looking at the switch. I mean it seems like strip mode should not even be close to causing detonation being its a 6# tune with a 4# pulley.
Anyways I am running the 4# pulley and 4# mode and have no problems.. just trying to fig. this out
** Finally my other question is how do I know for sure that the 4# mode (street) is using the Torque reduction method. My truck only 1 out of 10 times falls on its face after the 1st to 2nd shift so is that a symptom of this boost dump thing? What does the Torque reduction feel like. To me I don't feel any loss of power and it shifts very quickly and crisply **
I am soooo confused

I'm not sure about the race tune...but I'd get the torque reduction put back into the race tune. You'll burn up the intermediate clutches without it from what I've read. I do know that with the 01 and possibly 02 L's the torque reduction cuts fuel to 4 cylinders and also dumps boost pressure on the 1-2 shift. I'm not sure if it's something you would feel since it happens on a minute time scale (4 tenths or thousands of a second I believe) You can watch your boost gauge on the 1-2 shift at WOT and see if it dumps boost or not. I'd see if there is something up with the race tune causing your tip-in detonation.
