And so has Ron, right buddy?

And you will see more parked this year if they don't conform!

Actually, I was wondering where he has personally witnessed "hundreds" of nine second, non-legal passes by Gen 2 Lightnings....or even Gen 1 Lightnings for that matter.

Of the other vehicles that run faster than 11.00...I am thinking they are running legal vehicles....or they too get put on the trailer.

I have been told to put it up more than a few times..LOL. I plan to get real darned legal this year..or run in the times my equipment allows.

Judgement call = common sense.

Your problem is you are making up your own rules based on what the rulebook DOESN'T say. That's not how it works. If the rulebook doesn't specifically say something, that doesn't make it legal. If the rulebook doesn't say rear bars, that doesn't mean you can run double front bars. If there is a descrepancy, or something in the rulebook you are unsure of, you contact a tech official (which it's obvious you have not done). You don't just make up your own rules based on what the rulebook doesn't say.

Your rulebook doesn't say you have to run rear bars. It also doesn't say you are PERMITTIED to run double front bars. So going by the "letter of the law", now we are back to square one as to who is right based on what's "written". Does your rulebook have a diagram of the 5 point bar, like the one posted earlier? I'd guess yes. Does it show the to bars going to the rear, or does it show four bars going forward?

In your own words, case closed.

I never said that. I chose my words very carefully.

I said that: "The spirit of the law is at least as important as the letter of the law. And any discussion of rules is informed by common sense."

Laws and rules are to be interpreted in such a manner so that they make sense and are consistent with the intent of the rulemaker. It is a canon of construction applied by all courts. Common sense explains the rules and law. If there is doubt about application of a statute, a reviewing court will look to the legislative history of the law to determine what the legislature was trying to accomplish.

As an example, the rulebook does not say that you cannot drill 1/2" holes all over your cage to lighten it. But common sense and the intent of the rules -- safety -- dictate that you cannot.

And as Sal said, the tech inspector is the ultimate arbiter. Make him unhappy and you don't run. So by all means, head down to the track and tell him all about how you don't have to have rear braces because the rulebook does not actually say so.

Sal, I am not making any rules. I am strictly going by the rules word for word!

Mr. Lawyer chimes in and said that there are common sense rules that are not in the book!!

I'd say that is what your talking about...making up these common sense rules that aren't in the book!!

BTW, YOU CAN add bars anywhere you want, there is no rule or limit to the amount of bars you can have!

Racers have been pushing the limits of rulebook since racing began!
You canot allow or disallow anything unless the issue is specifiically addressed in the rulebook!

You CAN do things to your vehicle that are not addressed in the rulebook, you CANNOT do things that are prohibitted in the rulebook!

Yes, you can add EXTRA bars. But you can't delete required bars in the process.

You didn't answer my question. Do you have the roll bar pic in your IHRA rulebook?

Tm, you were talking about rear braces that are "supposed to be" to prevent rearward movement...
You say that the implied rule is obvious...therefore you are making up rules that are not in the book.
What makes you think that the intent of the law was to prevent rearward movement when it clearly says braces are to prevent FORWARD movement!!!!

I could see your point if there were something that was unclear, but in this case it ( the intent ) is VERY clearly stated!

Rear bars are not required in IHRA, I have already responded to that. NHRA does.

The picture you are reffering to is there to show the attachment point to the main bar, i.e. within 5" from the top!

No. Wrong. The picture is part of the general rule subdivision. It is just as much a "rule" as the written text. The picture is how you are required to build the bar. It says right in the text portion of the rules: "See illustration". That is why the picture contains the layout, and material specs for the tubing, that is NOT listed in the text portion of the rules. The picture IS the rules.

You are wrong. Give it up.

Sal, you're arguement for not making rules that aren't in the book should be directed to Tim!

I am making no rules, only following them as the appear in the IHRA rulebook...

I realize there is a difference between IHRA/NHRA, but you called me wrong for my simply stating the IHRA rules here!

I am not wrong for relaying their rules here, it was clearly a mistake to think that anyone here would want to actually know the rules!

But, I made no claims...made up no rules...or changed anything....just simply gave the IHRA rules, which clearly you were unaware of.....but instead of asking me about this, you acused me of being wrong...
I am not saying that i cannot be wrong or that I am egotistical at all, I am just saying that I have nothing to do with IHRA rules, so it's not me thats wrong!

Sal, you are reffering to a picture in the NHRA book. I have already conceeded to you that it may be that way in NHRA, but IHRA does NOT say that or show that at aLL!!

You asked me about my IHRA rulebook, I told you and qouted it, and then you try to prove me wrong with your NHRA book???
