Smile G'Day from Vienna!

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to say Hi and let you all how happy I was to come across this forum!

I'm an Australian (Perth) girl, moved over to in Europe (Vienna, Austria) in '98. Since I was a kid I've always had a passion for big Pickups (called 'Utes' in Oz) and motorbikes. I've been riding since I was 18 and for my 26th birthday last year I bought myself a Red '99 Lightning - what a dream!

American Pickups are really rare over here in Europe, let alone in here in Austria!! Its one of 2 (!!) registered '99 Lightnings in the country! I'm absolutley crazy about her and really looking forward to the summer, driving her to the Race Tracks with my bikes up on the back

I really enjoy reading all the Posts and find it REALLY great knowing I am not alone!!

Cheers and Happy Driving!!
Achara

ps. I'm due for a 20,000km service soon - is there any known problems with the '99 model that I should inform the mechanics about? Being so rare over here, I think it might be better me asking them to check these things out, to make sure everthing is okay rather than realising too late.

Cheers

Welcome to the board, from another gal. I'm a transplant also, from Sweden and I live in Texas now. Got to love them trucks. I used to ride bikes as well as road race them too. I've had several GSX-r 750 and 1100 as well as a couple of R1's and a CBR 900. Do you still have a bike and if so what kind?

For the service, you probably want to make sure your intercooler doesn't leak. It was a common problems on the 99's.

Welcome Miss Dagger,

You will definately find this board to be very helpful.

I always wondered about how you go about getting a Lightning overseas. Did you have to import it, or did you actually find it in Europe? If you import, are there a lot of fees and such?

Just curious.

Take care,
Greg

Wild construction!! FaBulous!!

I have a 3 bikes of my own - Ducati 748R for the Track, 748S for the road and a Honda Fireblade 250 ... my very first bike :-) I get a Harley (Dyna Glide) this year for riding and testing through an Austrian Motorbiking mag who I ride and test for. Last year I had the Sportster - loads of FUN!!

Thanks for the tip on the coolant!

Attached is the link to the Gallery I'm putting together, I think I messed up the link in my original post.

Thanks for your reply!
I actually found the Lightning here in Vienna. Was a lucky lucky find. :-)
You're right... to import new, its almost robbery! We get charged us 40% of the original cost of the car - 20% customs tax and 20% VAT. Also with new the EU laws and regulations on emissions and safety its getting HARDER to import the beauties. Petrol price over here are also shocking.
Priorities is everything!!
Thanks and take care...

Well G'day right back at ya! And as Jim Carrey would say " Let's put another shrimp on the barbi!! Sure is nice to have another female opinion around here. There is something about a girl that digs Lightnings as much as I do. The more you drive your Lightning the more you will love it. GOOD LUCK!!

Wow Miss Dagger,

They sure do get you on all those fees. It's funny how a car imported to the US needs safety and emissions upgrades, and the same is true when you import a US car overseas. That just tells me that they want to rip you off on fees and taxes! Bummer!

You have some nice bikes as well. Looks like you like to go fast!

Have fun!
Greg

Greetings from Germany

Hello MissDagger,

maybe you'll come sometimes to Germany or when I'll going to Austria, let us mail then and proceed an 'international' Lightning Meeting.

Welcome aboard!

It sounds like you'll more than fit in around here. Nice gallery, by the way. There's something about a lady that plays that hard.

MissDagger, welcome aboard. You are definately my kind of girl! I have a 01 996 myself, yellow with both mono and bi-posto. I see you've been down to Italy. The riding here is great. The next time you're down under let's cut a few corners. We can do bikes first, then cruise the trucks at night!

Welcome to the boards. There's also another L board. I don't know if I can list it here but here goes: www.NLOC.net.
Also have the Mechanic check your plug tightness or while he's in there just change them. You do not want to launch a plug.

issues with a 1999 lightning.

- Make sure you check the intercooler Fluid level regularly. The 99's have known problem for having a leaking intercooler.

- Ford made a very limited number of replacement (kits). It includes the intercooler and a lower manifold including the gaskets.

Here is some information:
there is a special kit you need to buy.

If you buy another stock '99 intercooler it will leak. I don' t think they make them anymore.

If you buy the 2001 - present, the bolt holes are different and the lower manifold runners are different.

YOU NEED TO BUY:
the kit.

Perform 01B81 for leaking intercooler P05 repair
Cause: 33211 Perform 01B81 recall. Replace intercooler
01B81B 01B81B/ Replace supercharge intercooler sub-assembly
SPO XL3Z 9424 AB Kit, Intake Manifold

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is some more information that I posted before.

All Ford Vehicles have an Emission warranty for 8 years or 80,000 miles.
A leaky I/C will Fould your O2 sensors and clog your catalytic convertors.
This is a federal Law C.F.R. somethinhg or another, that Mandates Ford to ensure the Emissions of the vehicle is up to par for 8/80. While doing some research I have concluded this may be the best way to go. I have told about 10 people within the last week who have this problem the same thing. Hope it works.
