Suavy, You may have heard me talking about it, I started a little fact finding mission and quest a while ago on it.
A Stang Racer friend of mine is heavy into racing and being properly certified for it, (he was running hi 8's low 9's and certified for it, this year he's steping it up to hi 7's low 8's) He just got re-certified, that cost him over 8K to do
(It's basically a 1 seater compartment "funny car like set up now", parachutes and wheelie bars included of course)
DAM I WANT A PARACHUTE AND WHEELIE BARS, hehehehe
So anyway we talk pretty much daily and since alot was based on his new bar changes, I often talk about our bar situation, he has a working relationship with Montana Bros, and they with the people that make these rules, so he offered to talk to them and see what they might be willing to find out.
(Montana Bros is a very well know local Race Chassis Specialist)

Some idea's I bouched off was why not be able to criss cross the bars and shoot both through the middle window ? This would allow them to shoot toward the side and not take much bed space at all, (hardly any AMOF), and of course also allow use of two out of three of the factory windows.
The Other was why not be able to have the brace bar come off the first and maybe criss cross behind the seats where they would never leave the cab, or if they had to, maybe allow them to leave below window height, and again shoot more towards the side and without ever entering the back.
(Edit) I'll try the rest below

Unfotunately while talking to Sal about it, he was informing me the prob is you need a 30 angle on the back braces, (I believe it was). I'd consider bar-ing mine eventually, was already talking it over with Sal, but not yet.

And what did they say? I just started a thread on this last night.
I really don't think you need to go out the rear window. Everyone does... but I haven't read in the rules where it states it's required. Unless they have issued a clarification of the rules, which I missed.

were in the rules does it not say you dont need the rear bars.
if you wanna play you gotta follow the rules

Vinnie, cages looks great. I think that is one of my plans in the near future. Best of luck this season!
Lookin' good !!!
Hey Vinnie, the cage looks great. Now you're gonna have to get a 5 point safety harness and you'll be set. I'm bringing my drivers seat up to JDM soon to get slots cut out for my harness to go through. Otherwise, the harness tends to slip down off the sides of the headrest slope. Next, they'll be busting our stones for not having a trans. blanket/shield. I guess you'll be going 4 single digits this year, good luck man.

Glad its done now Vinnie. I guess there's room for a silver truck there now. You know the one, the one that has that motor waiting on it.
YOU GOING TO BE THERE SATURDAY?
Somebody needs a ride back to Linden

Well Vinnie's bars look sweet. The workmanship and the paint job on them are top notch.
Geeeeeeee........maybe I should say like Vinnie, I'll never put a roll cage in my truck
Here's a pic of Rob's nightmare starting

Suavy it's that back brace we may have some play with,
I don't see anything about the angle being mentioned ???
I'll see if my Buddy heard anything this week when we talk ?
It would be nice to be able to brace it either inside the cab, or criss cross the brace inside the cab behind the seats then exit the cab under the windows and through the back side of the bed wall and down to the chassis, without ever having to go through the windows or truck bed for that matter

Gator
COME AND GET IT LOSER
It's been two seasons now I hold the Better ET,
That would be 2003 and 2004
HELLO, it's getting boring beating you, I hope you do SOMETHING.

Rob, I think you should send that picture to the rulemakers and ask them if it'll pass...
looks safe to me...
Congrats on the cage Vin, looks great. I know that's a relief to not have to worry about your times and getting kicked out now.

looks Great Vinnie!
As far as the rulebook goes on rollbars....
It is pretty clearly printed that the brace bars (two requirred) MUST originate from a point off the main hoop "within 5" from the top of the bar".
As far as going through the back window....There is no requirement for any particular angle or degree or even a direction...only that the main hoop is to be "sufficciently braced to prevent forward movement"....
The brace bars could remain within the cab, simply run them forward from the top of the bar towards the floorboards. One obviously along the pass. side and one from the drivers side that goes along the roofline and then down by the dash to the floor (similar to a rollcage upper brace).. You will also need to have a second drivers side bar same as before (insecting the drivers body at the mid-point...) and a cross brace on the main hoop..
Anyway, bottom line is that there are no rules that say the bars have to go rearward, so an in-cab bar would be allowed.
And BTW, just having a rollbar does not make a truck legal for 10's let alone 9's!!
I wont get into all the details (unless asked), but there are a few more safety items rerquirred for 10's and even more once you hit 9's....actually you would need a full cage and window net for 9's!!!

You know its funny Rob, you have NEVER beaten me heads up racing. And you surely have NEVER seen the front of my truck racing, only the rear of my truck, while following me down the track. And by the looks of that bearing out of your motor I think that photoshop picture might have been your truck......LOL
Its going to be so much fun whipping you at the track and then watching you come on here and tell everybody how you won!
You missed your calling in life. Instead of selling plumbing supplies, you should be writing fiction books.
To put this thread back on track........Those bars truely look nice. The workmanship is out standing. Those guys have got installing a cage in a Lightning down pat!

soooo jealous
