If they told the truth and said 4-6 weeks, people may go with the competitors product. Two weeks keeps you hanging in there and gives them two weeks to not have to talk to you.
In two weeks...they say two weeks again...now you figure since you have waited two weeks already, two more doesn't sound bad.

A week later...they give you some crap about an order screw up and it is going out this afternoon. Another week later, it shows up and your so fricking thrilled to finally get it, you forget about being jerked around for damn near two months.
Does that clear it all up for you? They actually put the technique in a book that all performance vendors read.
