Rear End Shudder

I searched before posting, but most threads were from newer F150s, so I'm not sure if it is the same problem as mine. So I'm looking for some help and info on what's going on.

So here it goes. When I take off from a dead stop, I sometimes feel a shudder coming from the rear end for a second or two, and it then goes away. Is this normal? Or do I have a problem?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Cesar

Ps. Truck has 90,000 miles and has been stock. I have just installed a superchip tune.

your not lowered or anything? If you are it could be due to your pinion angle, if not get traction bars, they are cheap, www.jegs.com sells the lakewood traction bars that alot of guys use for 94.99

Just guessing but check for proper(32psi-cold) and equal air pressure in both tires.

is the shudder noticed when accelerating in a straight line, or when accelerating and turning at the same time?

Not quite sure if the truck is lowered or not. I was just thinking that myself today. I saw another lightning and the rear end seemed higher than mine. My truck looks like it stands almost even, but I do haul apprx. 300 to 400lbs in the bed most of the time. Anyway, I'm going to get traction bars soon because I have experienced wheel hop once or twice with the F1's.

Did that yesterday. The right rear, is not holding pressure though. I will be replacing the rear F1's soon. I'll probably only get 3 months out of the current ones. Probably going to replace with Nitto 555's, as soon as I can find someone that sells them.

I know it has happened in a straight line for sure, and I'm almost posititve that it has also happened while turning.

What are you guys thinking it is? Is it serious?

Thanks for the input so far.

Cesar

Mine does this while turning somtimes. I think it is the tire spinning a little bit.

Have the same problem in my 01, seems to happen more often when turning and accelerating. Also happens in reverse. Dealer says he cant feel it. Dumb *****s anyway. Been that way ever since pinion seal was replaced.

Rear end clutch packs can cause this, especially when cold. If your truck has been ran hard for the majority of its 90,000 miles then I would definately consider checking into them...

clutch packs is where I thought Chris (Superfords) was going with his questions.
If you've got 90,000 on the truck, it could be the clutch packs are worn enough to slip.
some would consider using it as a truck running hard LOL, I don't think the majority of us on here have that many mi. on ours but you also mentioned a new tune, did you ever have a tune other than stock on it before? just thinking you might have gotten just enough increase, to have the worn stuff start showing itself a little sooner than it would've, nothing wrong with that, you just may find stuff a few thousand mi. earlier.
sounds like your trucks treated you good for 90,000 mi. but stuff will wearout.
Good luck with it.

Edit: Warning, I have tried to edit this thread and it just keeps on growing. Sorry

I really don't know how the truck has been treated during the 90K. I just bought it a month ago, for 12K from my boss's son, who has owned it for over 2 years (his Dad upgraded him to a 2005 F250 Harley Davidson truck), and I'm sure he did his share of racing people on the street. Anyway, the truck actually runs great. I also noticed it last night after getting off of the highway, where I probably drove 7 miles point to point. I think that the rear would have warmed up by then.

I noticed the shudder the day I bought it (December 27, 04). I flew up to Jacksonville and drove it back down to Miami. Therefore, I was listening and feeling stuff. The shudder was really the only thing I noticed. Besides the gay, blue, led lights the previous owner had installed all over the inside of the cab. My wife likes them. She thinks they're pretty.
The tune was installed approximately 2 weeks ago, when coincidentally, the same exact day, one of the fuel pumps blew off the fuel line hose inside the gas tank. I thought great, I just screwed up my truck. It was running on 25 lbs fuel pressure for a few miles until I got it to GAW in Miami (he's the guy with the 11 second F350 Cummins Diesel). He said he had never seen this in 20 years. He then fixed it and Dynoed it. 310 RWHP before tune, and 361 RWHP after tune. We were shocked a tune would make that much difference. They really had never seen a stock Lightning before.

Sorry about the previous post. I don't know what happened. It double and triple posted some areas of the post and I couldn't edit it. It only kept on growing. I got it back to double in some areas and left it that way.

In response to the replies, should I get these clutch packs changed soon? And is this something that I should attempt or have a shop do?

Cesar

I just did a search, they said there is a rebuild kit but sounded more like have a shop do it.
one person said the shops like to replace the whole carrier assy. cause its easier.
try a pm to superfords, He's a Ford service tech and is usually very good about getting a fellow L owner pointed in the right direction
