Unhappy Ford remote starter

I just recieved a Genuine Ford Remote starter system from my dealer, part number 2W7Z-19G364-AA. There are no install instructions in the box. Instead, there is a label which directs you to the ford dealer website to download the instructions, a website that I can't access because I have no ID or password. Has anyone ever installed one of these, and can you share the instructions, any tips, pitfalls, etc? Thanks!

I watched them install them on 2 of my Supercrew King Ranches, I will some up the install procedures in 3 words. Take To Dealer. It is very sufisticated work programming the PATS ans everything else, unless you are real smart I wouldn't try it. If you do try it don't be suprised if you are phoneing for . I believe the number is 1-800-ford-key and through the automated system and operators you got to bull***** your way through tech support.

I had remote start on my camaro done a few years back. holy shyt. It took a pro about 5 hours b/c "its a 5 switch system", whatever that means.

But the newer Fords seem to have much more sophistocated inner workings going on that I would never touch.

Does the Ford system come with a seperate remote? Can they somehow replace the stock remote so you only need one for everything?

I would not use the Ford kit it sucks, I added it to my wife Explorer and it only works like 40ft away. It does use the factory remote or the one it comes with you just programm them it is easy but the kit itself sucks.
I would get an aftermarket one they work like 1500ft away now with no external antenna even further if you add the antenna

Just my 02

my old clifford/avital remote start advertised 1/4 mile distance w/ no obstructions. it probably came pretty close with a good battery in the remote.

Does it look anything like this?

If so, RUN, don't walk, down to the dealer and get it installed. I spent about three days, then gave up and took it to Ford to finish.

Go with Aftermarket

I have a BullDog remote start system that I had on my 00' and 02' L. By the time I switched it over to the 02' it only took me about 4 hours to install myself. If you really want a remote start and want to do it yourself, that is the way to go in my opinion. I got mine at Sam's Club and I've seen them at Wal Mart too, comes WITH instructions, EASY to follow wire connections, a cool voltage tester, and you can download vehicle specific connections on their website with no password...They also have a Tech Support # if you run into trouble. Just make sure you get a tranceiver module to go along with the system (also shown on their site). www.bulldogsecurity.com . Good Luck!

Well I work in a water treatment plant and have to park about 1000'ft away. Like I said this is in my wifes truck and when she was working also had to park in a lot across from her building and it would not work Concrete, flourecent lights, cell antennas reak havoc on the cheaper ones signal making to the car.

I could not even start the truck from the backyard of my house++++ if it is only gonna start from 40' why not just go and start it.
I had to switch it it was well worth it

Is there a way to have a totally keyless vehicle? As in, remote start without needing a key at any point? Someone said it was possible, but didnt know where to get it.

It's possible with any remote start, just instead of having the brake pedal kill the remote start have a manual switch u hit when you enter the truck, but then there is the colume lock to get around and such..

i installed a fm remote start and alarm in the truck over the summer, works great, gives two way system status if the truck is started and if the shock sensor was tripped, took about 3 hours, but i did a couple in my old f150..

Buy a new corvette. Keep the key fob in pocket. Car unlocks it self. You get in. I guess there is a start button or something (no first hand experiance) you get out, walk away, car locks itself.

I am looking into an Autopage alarm w/remote start. One of your extra keys is wired in under the dash into the system so you can remote start.

Unit will transmit and receive up to 2000 feet!!

$120.00 to buy and $200.00 to install ouch. I will probably try to do myself.

This thing will page you and show you what areas have been compromised and even the temperature inside.

If I do get it I will follow up and let you know whether I could do it or not. Sometime in late Feb more than likely
