Heads/cam/exhaust and you can easily have a 440+rwhp car. Not to mention they already have blowers for them (Eaton M90) that push the thing close to 500rwhp.

There may indeed be _some_ new Mustangs running 10s. That's fine. Are they 100% legal and getting 20mpg? No, they'll be fully caged and gutted race cars that people will trailer to the track.

The '03-04 Cobra powerplant is 100x better than the lame-o 3v 4.6. Ford builds a mid-13 second Mustang ... that's progress?
mid 13 mustang....mid 13 gto....mid 13 lightning.....what am i missing????.. stang is cool as he11 and the goat is....a goat

I guess the simple fact that pretty much every Pontiac I've ever been in has been a POS I just find that hard to believe. Guess we won't know for sure for a few years if what you say is true.

the GTO isn't a real pontiac... its a holden monaro rebadged for the US market as i'm sure you probably know... Fit and finish is much nicer than any other recent pontiac

Simple fact? Whatever. Every new vehicle I've ever owned, aside from the Lightning, has been a GM product. Three of those were late model F-Bodies. I had zero problems with any of them. Zero! Nothing broke regardless of how hard I abused them. I baby my Lightning; and, it feels like its falling apart around me. Creaks, rattles, vibrations, and popping noises from the front suspension, even after clunk washers. Let's not get into the beating a small block Chevy engine can take.

I once sat in a Ferrari. The leg room sucked. What a POS!

I typed out a long response to you citing examples of my exact opposite experience then yours, but then I decided I really don't want to get in a debate where nobody will win. You have your experience and I have mine. I think mine is more common, you think yours is.

My advice is for you to sell your L get back in an FBody ... I can feel the dissatisfaction in the tone of your post. Life's too short to drive something you don't enjoy.

As far as the Ferrari comment ...

Nope. The 400hp GTO in capable hands will run high-12s, low-13s stock. The last gen LS1 powered F-bodies ran low-13s bone stock.

A mid-13 second GT. Let's see... 8 years ago, good drivers could get a '96 Cobra into the mid-13s. Like I said... its not progress.

The ONE thing about the Mustang that is good is the price. I can't argue with that.

But until they build a 450hp Cobra, I'm not getting back into a Ford ponycar.

the 04 gto is a nice car imho

it has been awhile since i have driven a stock L

but i am sure the L could take it.

the gto felt stronger over 70 mph, but was real sluggish to that mph

the only down side with the gto is that its a "car"?

the L is a truck, a lot of us forget that

GTO looks like a Gran Am from the front,
and an oversized Cavalier from the rear.

Good points and I agree with you. As I said in my original post on the subject, I don't particularly care for the exterior styling. Interior fit and finish is better than the Mustang. I didn't believe it was a Pontiac (and as someone astutely pointed out, it really _isn't_). You can actually fit 4 decent sized adults in it, although the doors are so short that getting in and out of the backseat is not the easiest.

Pontiac is going to redesign the car to make it look more retro in '07, I believe. You're right...the '04 had VERY poor sales.

1967 GTO, 1970 Ram Air IV GTO, 1978 Trans Am,
1983 Camaro Z28, 1999 Lightning......

loved the GTOs but the new one is butt ugly..hope they improve the looks, love the 2005 Mustang and for under 25,000
it will kick the GTO's butt with a few mods...

Lightning is now a legend.. I remember when many thought it was impossible for the bolt to turn 12's in basic factory trim...

Go with a stang or a lighting or wait until the 2007 Camaro comes out :^)

We're on a Ford site. The consensus here would likely be in your favor. That doesn't mean it's an accurate opinion. I like my Lightning, flaws and all. I was just pointing out that ALL vehicles that are affordable and attractive are going to have flaws. The trick is learning how to eliminate them yourself so it doesn't cost you an arm and a leg..
