is this normal (gauge cluster)

I don't remember if my gauges used to act like this on start-up:

It takes about 5 or more seconds after the truck is started to have the gauges turn on, sweep, and the warning lights test themselves.

They just sit dead for a bit, then start.

that is a sign that your battery is ready to die. All newer Ford trucks will do that as the cranking amps of the battery go low. Get that battery checked before it leaves you stranded.

wow, my first triple post!

i'm going to check the wiring i did for my aftermarket gauges, maybe i tapped into a source that is "always-on" and it's draining the battery.

i really dont think i did that, but we'll see.

most likely, need new battery.

yeah, I was guessing $80 for a standard battery.

the optimas I thought were 100-160 depending on yellow, red, or blue.

My gauges will do a full sweep anytime I've had the battery disconnected for serveral hours or more. When I reconnect the battery and start the truck for the first time is when I see it happen.

HI!... Your gauges will also go through a sweep test after start-up if your PCM is going bad. Due to the PCM losing power due to a bad connection inside somewhere. Going through this on my truck currently. Found out it was my PCM. Just ordered a new PCM (BOJ4) though MIKE TROYER. Was almost half the price of my CANADIAN dealer here. Should be here in a week or so. I was also getting the truck to stall when coming to sudden stops (not IAC, NEW), and stalling when truck was left ideling for more than 10 minutes. Also my theft light would come on during driving and truck would violently die. Digital ODOMETER would also fade in and out. I'm also running a OPTIMA yellow top battery. It most likely isn't this on your truck, but it is something you can check.
