Do you think the light weight oil could of contributed to the scouring of the #7 bearing? I remember using the recommended 5w/30 oil my in Chevy Blazer and after a year or so of use I spun a bearing. I now always uses 10w30 in the Blazer and in the L.

BTW

You can see the back of the bad Bearing is fine, no spinning occured YET.

It was clearly a journal / lack of oiling issue #*@#$@$#@($%@$

One with the flash on (the flash makes it look worse, it picks up every entire little scratch and intensifies it) the backs were fine

Rob,

Definitely invest in a better grade oil. Try running AMSoil or Royal purple 5w-30. The 5w20 motorcraft has terrible visoscity.

If you're the researching type, http://theoildrop.server101.com/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi

In general if you're running your truck hard, consider having an oil analysis done every oil change or two. It can pick up an increased accumulation of metals and contaminants and may provide an early warning of engine wear. They can sometimes even discern what part is suffering abuse based on the differing metallurgy of different components.
Of course, just because the analysis comes back OK doesn't mean you dont have problems. However, if the analysis shows elevated levels of certain components it's a good early warning sign that something might be going south on the express.

Blackstone Laboratories is a great place for oil analysis. It cost $20 for a standard test plus $1.50 or so for mailing it in to them. Here is a link to their websites FAQ. Look around they have some good information.

What is nice is you can get a free kit, I have one waiting in the garage for the next oil change. They send it to you for free and don’t charge you until you send it back for analysis.
