New Powerslots and pads are on but......

I was curious about how long it takes for the initial dusting to chill out? I have the P Slots and Morse Ceramic pads, well I drove it home(a few miles after the little "test drive")after the garage went to take it out to seat them and go thru the steps listed on the Power Slot instuctions(I hope). Well when i got home I wanted to wipe the wheels down since they looked pretty gross. Well I about burnt the top of my finger off getting in there and to wipe down inbetween the spokes on the front caliper.I noticed that everything including the wheels were pretty damn toasty.
I wiped the wheels off and there was allot of dust and I can notice what looks like little silver shavings in there(may not be but looked that way). Could be the caduim plating from the rotor being rubbed off?
So I guess my questions are will the dusting diminish after the pads are all seated in? Is it normal for new pads and rotors to seem so warm/hot after just a handful of miles after install?I have wiped of my wheels before after driving the stockers and have not noticed that kind of toastyness and driving much further/
One more thing is I was trying to get a look at the rear pads to see how they were as far as flush with the rotor and it "appeared" that they were not flush to the rotor. I mean the back edge(all I could really see)appeared to be almost in contact toward the bottom of the pad but the top part did not look the same. Am I being paronoid or should I bring them to a different brake shop and have them take a look to see if everything looks str8 to them. I dont want to drive it if something is a miss since I just got them?
Sorry for the long thread but I am just trying to put out as much info as I can.
Help,advise,thoughts appreciated.

I would not keep the cermaic pads on. I had a set from NAPA and they warped my rotors. I now have Rotor Pro zinc coated and slotted with Motorcraft pads and everything is fine.

Ditto above:scrap em,i got into a fender bender with them. They have serious fade until hot.Not sure on the metalic dust cause mine hardly dust from day one.I used stock rotors.I want to beef up the rotors cause my first set of stock had several cracks in them, each plus being warped with only 4500 miles on the truck.I drive hard.Next mod.

See the thing is i read all these threads and some like the ceramics(no warping, low dust)and then some don't. Originally I was going to go with the Hawks since they seem to be so popular but still plenty of dusting I guess. I dont have a problem with cleaning my wheels but its not like Im road racing with ceramics either so do you think they will cause problems? I was just surprised at the heat and amount of initial dust JUST getting them on but Im wondering if thats normal at first until they break in?

Did you replace the stainless steel "slides" when you
put the new rotors in? If not, one end of the pad may not
slide smoothly and therfore "crock" (remove the "R")
the pad in the caliper.

Ceramics will hold the heat in your rotors, so expect very short life.

yeah I hear that but they seemed aweful hot for a four mile drive up the road with overcast and drizzle. Maybe Im just getting squirlly for nothing but man the wheels seemed aweful gritty and black for ceramic pads, wonder if it might be residual paint off the rotors as well since they were painted black?hmmmmm

dude you got me on that one. I had the garage replace my rotors, pads. I bought the goods and handed it off to them. Mr. non mechanical here. Not sure what you mean about the ss slides? Are they a seperate purchase or were they suppode to come with the rotors because there was nothing extra with them.

I'm still lookin into what pads to use. I have 20 inch Boyds so I'm kinda lookin for somethin with as little dust as possible!

I just ditched my ceramic pads and went back with stockers. The ceramics didn't dust but they warped my Ruslow rotors twice in a year. Since I can't get them turned again, I figured I'd better go back with stock pads so the rotors might last a while. The ceramic pads also fade like crazy under hard braking. I've nearly been in two accidents due to not being able to stop.

ditto

I too had the Powerslots on mine, with ceramic pads. The pads melted away after 20K maybe, maybe sooner. They ripped the crap outta my driver's side rotor, and the stupid warning thingie didn't even make any noise beforehand. I heard that you shouldn't use ceramic pads on these because of the makeup of the rotor material. Switch'em out.

I have 20" Boyds on the way and that was one thing I was trying to consider.

Man instead of just going to a brake shop to see if the brakes were squared away the shop that did them today now I have a feeling I will be scraping the ceramics and putting something else on. Dont they sell Hawk pads at Pep Boy sor one of the local stores? Boy talk about pissing money away but I would rather replace pads(new one at that)then rotors down the road.
