Hate to be the smartalec here, and definitely not trying to offend Chikenears, but get a bike before you go. Or, have never owned a good handling car before. I LOVE my L, but after owning an early VW Scirocco, a Honda CRX and later a Mustang Cobra, mountain roads in the truck are a boring, tiring, constant brake squealing, pita.......its just not as much fun period.

PS: The sportbikers already make fun of the Hardly-Ablesons clogging up an otherwise fun road. Don't get upset when you're being continuously passed by bikes on their back wheel.

Living in Colorado, I get my fair share of corner carving. I live above 9500 ft and there are no straight roads near me except when I get to Denver. The sport bikers love it, but I do see a lot of motorcycle fatalities. Most of the roads near me have no guard rails either, so a lot of times cars/bikes crash and aren't even discovered for days or weeks. You don't want to make a mistake on these types of roads!

The gap is a BLAST!!! (I wouldn't want to take the L on it though, great way to burn up a set of brakes forsure) My advice, DO NOT GO ON WEEKENDS!!! Way to many bikers, and unmarked police on the weekends with helicopters around, and on the week days you can see semi's in the gap, no fun at all coming around a coner, to see the next 3 corners blocked by a semi. Talken about missen your pants!!! Now for me, the real fun is on 28 after the gap, take it to the end, turn left and take 28 again to the right. Please be very careful up there, it could take days/weeks for somebody to find you IF you should crash.

I live near the dragon. Been across a couple of times to white water raft the Nantahala on the other side. The curves are fun but by the end of the run you are ready for it to be over..... then just turn around and go back over! Make your passengers car sick! I would like to take my L across but not on a weekend!
