breaking in the new motor?
breaking in the new motor?
just a couple questions to clairify things for me.
new built bottom and new heads and stage 2 cams.
i have heard that i should break in the new motor with the stock injectors on a stock tune.
it would be a lot easier to change the injectors when i change the motor. any input would be appreciated.

I agree... I drove my truck home about 200miles with the new motor, the next day it was being "broken in" on the dyno...
The next weekend it was being "broken in" at the track
Its doing ok.... Except for head-gaskets... which are a different story..

It really depends on how the engine was built for the exact break-in procedure.
Some race engines need very little break-in.
It is best to check with your engine builder as only he knows what is done to your motor!
I am getting a new JDM Long block motor and it will not see any street miles before it's first race in Orlando.
Jim will Dyno it and it will be pretty much ready to roll... I will probably make a couple of easy runs during time trials and then right to qualifying!
Of course, I will only be running about 600 RWHP instead of a possible 650.
I would suggest doing your first oil change ASAP after your first "full pass".
And of course make sure you always use good fuel..or race fuel as needed!
That and ...
What Don said!!

Drive it a couple of hundred miles to make sure nothing comes lose, then give it He!!...
That's what I did, It's still together with about 5,000 miles on it...
I have cometic head gaskets on my motor, but Jim at JDM uses the stock Ford gaskets and Chikin1, Don, Vinnie, and dealerjim, etc. JDM customers have had no problems ??

my builder is talking about rings seating. i have faith in the builder.
he wants me to get 1500 miles on the motor before i start to race it.
that just sounds like a ton of miles to me.
but i'm sure he knows more then i do
it is gonna kill me, having more power under the hood and having to contain myself.
just fricken watch, when i'm in the "break in" time i will get all kinds of challenges.

I just picked up my built motor with ported heads and Stage II cams; builder wanted me to break it in on a stock tune and injectors, mainly to insure it wasn't too rich and to also insure no boost. I talked him into doing the 60# injectors and custom tune from the beginning, but I immediately made sure it was tuned correctly. Just got my 1000 miles and am now getting ready for the full throttle tuning.
