driveline noise ?

any ideas are appreciated...

my 2000 L just recently started making a "whurring" sound while in motion. the noise does not depend on RPM and happens while in drive or in neutral (while still moving). the sound has a real low pitch at about 10mph and then increases on up past 60mph.
I thought it might be related to the tires/wheels, but tonight I switched out wheels and tires for a spare set I have, but the noise was still there.
I looked around under the truck and didnt see any fluid leaking or stuff caught anywhere.

does anybody know if this type of noise could be from the differential ? the transmission ?

the noise is pretty loud and annoying. it sort of sounds like an RC car.

any thoughts ?

I recall a similiar noise with my standard F150 in 1990 and it turned out to be the u-joint. You may want to start there.

thanks for the help guys

those ideas sound very reasonable.... is there any way to test to see if a u-joint or wheel bearing is bad ?
