Any other options?

Detroit locker has a "Detroit true trac" that's almost to market. Give them a call and see what they can offer.

(I'll have one next year)

btw: They've got a prototype operating in a 10second truck.

Just get a rebuild kit and install new friction plates...Our stock differentials are very stout...

Eaton makes a nice beefy one with carbon fiber clutch plates. Much improved over stock. I have one in mine, but don't have enough miles on it to comment on a real difference.

I would just rebuild the stocker. It's the best unit out there right now until something better comes out.

I was running 1 of 2 prototype Eaton diffs in big red two years ago. It's a total peice of junk. The side gears are about a third the size of the stock Ford ones, and guess what- I shattered them in less than a season. When I pulled my rear apart when I was having traction issues, my Eaton gears had a zillion cracks in them, and the carbon clutches were a melted liquid goo dripping from the unit.

I'd love to put an ARB air locker in, but they don't make them for this rear yet. Eaton is also supposed to come out with an E-locker for it, but the R&D guys told me there's no way it would handle the kind of abuse of launching a 5k lb truck at a dragstrip.

So until someone comes out with something better, have the stocker rebuilt. That's what's been in my truck for all those wheels up launches.

And you will need to have it done, you can't do it yourself, there is a special tool you need to unload the belvue washers to get the pack apart.

What ive read in previous posts is that the stocker is a very good unit, and i would just rebuild that. seems to be what everyone else is saying too.

I've seen a number of stock units slip. Mine included.

Sal.. is the a way to tighten it up during a rebuild?

Cool

HI!... I totally agree with SAL , the EATON posi is a huge POS. I destroyed my stock 9.75 rearend. Bought a new unit from FORDS.

Sal,

Cliff and I need something better for the road course. We will put a whole different stress on the system than you did at the drag strip. Do you think for our purpose the stocker is still the best way to go? How about better clutches and stiffer springs?
