securing the sliding rear window

I searched around and read a few posts about dowels/rods in the track of the sliding rear window as well as a few break-ins. Can anyone else suggest any alternatives for securing the sliding rear window? The track...the latch...a pin?

I am installing a power slider and would like an idea for theft prevention as well. I will stay tuned.

On my 85 Ford, I used flat pieces of wood. (after the truck had been broken into, for my cheap azz amp, but they left my awsome EQ, and a size 12 muddy nike imprint on my seat) I think it was actually paint stir sticks cut and painted flat black to match the trim. You couldn't even see them! I thought our locking window looked pretty solid though?

I was shown a quick way to open the slider from the outside. I ended up using a fiberglass rod, similar to putting a stick in a patio door. It's simple and can save some grief if you do it in advance.

I fixed mine by putting a solid window in.

Wow this is an old thread, and you bet your *** I am lazy. I want all the neat gadgets I can get. Plus, I don't ever have to worry about someone "popping" the lock on my rear window. It is controlled now by a screw drive like a garage door.

Can you post how you did the conversion? I've been wanting to do the same.

No problem. I bought this window, http://www.crlaurence.com/ProductPag...6.html?Origin= and it came with all the crap I needed. I removed my rear window, installed the power slider, mounted the drive motor and cable behind the seats, and wired the system up. I put my switch next to my steering column on that black closeout panel where they mount the factory switch for a factory installed power slider. I love it and it looks better imho on the outside of the truck. There is no window frame so I think it looks cleaner than the factory window. Unfortunately, I might have to put my slider up for sale next year when I get a cage in my truck unless they can make plexiglass replacements for the sides.

If you are not busy tonight, I am putting a tranny in a fox body at my shop in edmond, right off of I-35 and danforth. I can give you directions, I will email you through the board with my number. You can come by and check out my slider and the motor location.

Price was expensive, close to 500 bucks. I had to get a new back window anyway since mine was damaged, so I went ahead and splurged. As soon as I get home from work, I will post up a few pics of my setup.
