Removing front springs w/out taking apart ball joints?

Can you remove the front springs w/out taking apart the ball joints? I was going to try just removing the upper control arm bolts (want to do the cam bolts anyway) and sway bar link, to get the springs out.

What size are the upper control arm nuts?

Thanks for any assistance.

I searched for a discussion on this, but could not find it. I do remember, though that the trick was to remove the upper control arm bolts while supporting the lower control arm with a jack. Once they are out , simply lower the jack and the spring comes out without taking the ball joints apart.

Sure can ... I think the uppers are 21 mm (7/8")

Support the lower with a jack, undo the bolts on the upper
attachment points, undo the anti-sway bar, unhook the ABS
from the shock top, undo the shocks and lower away ...

Yeah, Cliff has done a very nice job on those write-ups.

And in compensation for your efforts Cliff, I've instructed Rob to give you that thing you wanted

Thanks SVT_KY. Your post was the one I was looking for. Having re-read it, I see I was wrong about which bolts to remove. I've corrected my post and bookmarked yours, cause I'll be doing the swap in about 3 weeks. My apologies to all concerned for not remembering it correctly, but all you "old farts" will learn that when you become an "even older fart" you'll forget your name unless you get mail!

scv8: Since then, I did the same thing to a pair of 1999/2000 springs and installed them. It brought the back down so the truck is dead level with the stock factory fronts. I've got the Ground Force fronts sitting in a box and will be installing them soon using SVT_KY's helpful instructions.

Kerno,

Would you be able to say how much lower the'99/'00 springs are with your mod, than the '04 leafs? Also, do they start with 5 leafs like the '04? Feel any difference in ride?

Thank you
