Wiring guru's....
I hard wire my radar detector via the overhead console. When I turn my lights on it turns off. I know this has to do with the auto diming feature. I'm not aware of any other way to wire it.
Anyone have suggestions??
I have a whistler pro-73
thanks,

When you turn the lights on, the auto dim decreases the voltage into the temp display, which is less than the detector needs. You can either run a new power wire up there, or splice that one into a different power source, but to splice it elsewhere, you'd need the wiring diaqgrams to find out where the harness plugs into.
Like stated above, go straight to the fuse panel, preferably to a constant power source. Also make sure to use a fusible link in case of a power surge you wont burn your truck up.

Get a fuse tap, and get power off your fuse block.

Thanks a bunch. I will get started on this first thing in the morning.

Borrowing a pic from ROB02 I updated to add the fuse i used which is key on power only.

Thanks all!
and yes I used an inline fuse.

I think you musta grabbed the wrong wires. The voltage
on mine is constant regardless of the light switch position.
