Alright Wittom! Considering that you like the single cab, I think you made a great decision. ......if they made a supercharged supercab flareside, from the factory, I would already have one.

Have you considered looking for a Lightning that already has a built block, tranny, etc.? Remember to at least get one with heads that have the increased spark plug threads.

I hope you find the fastest tire burning Lightning around. You deserve it. Good Luck!

Thanks Iron Horse!

I'm looking for a totally stock (unmolested) Lightning. If changes are to be made I want to be the one that does them. I'm thinking that I will just do tuner and pullies. Hopefully I can be happy with that. (fat chance!) I'm looking at an '03 and would'nt buy anything any older. I believe that it was '01 that they added a few more threads to keep the spark plugs from blowing out.

I've had a great time modding my '98. It's been cool corresponding with you and others about the how and what over the past few years. My truck is still in great shape and I could easily drive it for a few more years. The thing is I'm at a point now that the truck is still worth something. If I drive it for even one more year (another 10k mi.) it will be worth considerably less. I figure now is a good time to make the switch. If I can't get a good deal I will happily continue to drive the '98.

Right now I can only have one vehicle at a time. I want that one vehicle to be one that I really like. I do really like the '98 but the Lightning is much more refined. I am fortunate to not have kids or any other major expenses. I'm still young enough to enjoy what a Lightning has to offer yet old enough to appreciate it. My vehicle isn't a daily driver, as I have a company truck that I drive a majority of the time. My vehicle is the one that my girl and I use to take our vacations in, and for heading out for weekend day trips. I want to have a truck because vacations usually consist of camping, with a bunch of gear, and day trips often involve mountian bikes. I like the Lightning because it's more comfortable than a "standard" F150, the interior and better suspention, and also because it has the power that I want to manuver the highways and biways the way I want to.

I will admit, I feel a little guilty at the thought of getting rid of a truck that I, with the help of others, have worked hard to get it to the point that it is. It is not a Lightning though!

Actually it was the 01’s and 02’s (maybe 00’s ?) that only had the 4 or 5 threads that had issues with blowing plugs. The 03’s and 04’s have the new heads with, I believe 8 threads.

I can completely understand not wanting to buy a modded Lightning. I would never consider that either unless I knew the person real good and knew their truck was in great condition.

I am sure there are some great modded Lightning’s out there with no issues but many people know there is also a real good chance you could be buying someone’s problem that a dealer most likely will not repair even if there still is a warranty.

I wanted the same as you, a brand new Lightning that no one else has drove or touched. Mine had 3 miles on it at the dealers when I drove it off the lot last February. I owned a few other F150’s regular cabs before the Lightning and the Lightning is in my opinion a completely different feel then your normal F150. You will really love having a Lightning and I can’t see any reason you would ever have second thoughts about buying one.

I didn't want to buy a modded truck either....but originally I was actually looking for a used 01-02, then I was looking at used 03s. I almost bought a used DSG 03, then finally I said F it and went brand new. No regrets here.
My father has been hinting that he wants a gen 2 also... Like we have room for a 3rd L over here.

I happen to know where there is an 03 True Blue, completely stock, never every done a burn out, and at most, been WOT a half dozen times.

The only problem, it's sitting in a garage in Florida. And thats not really a problem

Thank you... It's not looking so sweet right now though! I couldn't cover it before it snowed because I had no time to wash it because I was working... Now It's covered in salt and dirt and other crap.
